Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

If you have a video monitor & older toddler -

My monitor broke and I am in the market to replace. It was not a video monitor. I am on the fence with replacing it as I live in a 1 floor house and her bedroom is next to ours. I hear it all regardless of the monitor. So my question is, have you found your use/need of the video monitor has increased as your toddler has gotten older?  I was just reading about some difficulties a mom had transitioning from crib to toddler bed, and that got me thinking the video monitor might be something we should consider.  However, I could also argue that since I have never had one, I don't know what I am missing and don't need one. haha

 Thoughts?  TIA!

Re: If you have a video monitor & older toddler -

  • I used the one in my DS's room until just a few months ago. It was extremely helpful because I could see if he had gotten out of bed. When he turned 4, I decided that he was old enough not to get hurt or into trouble if he did get out of bed.

Now I positioned it in our basement (which is a 2nd family room/playroom) because sometimes he likes to go down there to play and watch TV by himself and I like to just keep an eye on what he's doing down there, just in case...

I still use DD's in her room.

  • I absolutely love our video monitor, I got it when DD was around 6 months old.  I wish I had gotten it sooner, it works great and love being able to see what is going on in her room.  I don't see any reason to remove it from her room until she is in preschool.
  • I recommend getting a video monitor.  We use it more now than we did when our DD was an infant.
