Preschool check-in

Today's question:

What days/hours is your DC's preschool?
How far do you live from the school?  (Driving time)
What time do you usually get there? (Our dropoff period is generally a 1/2 hour block)

Any other updates?

Re: Preschool check-in

  • DD's preschool is MWF, 8:30-11:30 (I miss the 9-12 hours!)

We are prob less than a mile from school.  I would walk but there aren't sidewalks all the way, so I don't feel comfortable even with a stroller.  We are less than a minute.

BEfore the time change, we were getting there probably 8:40 because the kids were getting up late and taking forever to eat breakfast.  But with the time change, we are shooting for on time!

Friday we got a note that a student was diagnosed wtih strep, so I figured we were headed for a rocky weekend.  DD says her 'nose' hurts, so I guess we'll see... I can't complain though because we haven't' really been sick this year yet.

  • I think I need to join this because I am having major anxiety about my baby leaving me :( I wish we could only do a few days a week. The school we like the best so far is from 9-2, although I have already asked to pick him up before their rest time at 1. They dont do anything after rest in terms of educational stuff - just get the kiddos ready for the bus. We live about 25 miles away. I think my DH will be taking him most days, and he'll be dropped off between 8:30 and 9 depending on DHs schedule.

    Today's question:

    What days/hours is your DC's preschool?  Tues/Thurs 9:15-11:45
How far do you live from the school?  (Driving time) About 5/6 mins- depending on traffic at the giant intersections
What time do you usually get there? (Our dropoff period is generally a 1/2 hour block) Doors to the school open at 9am but teachers do not open their classroom doors until like 9:14:59, haha. We're usually one of the 1st ones there b/c I have to unpack the twins and their stroller for his drop off so I over overcompensate for time.

Any other updates? They are learning about being "helpers". Each kid made a helping hand (handprint) and the teacher wrote their answer to "how do you help at home". All the pics in the hallway "I help mom with my sister", "I help my mom clean up toys"... Then there's one that says, "I help my mom peel bananas"-yep by Justin W. he's such a goof!

  • He's in a preschool room at daycare, so he's there from 7:20-3:30 everyday. It's on my way to work, so about 10-12 minutes to get there from home.

He's been doing really well lately. His teachers say they've seen a huge improvement in his behavior and ability to follow that classroom routine. A huge sigh of relief for me! He had Pajama Day on Friday. He was so excited to spend all day in his jammies!

I just had to put in an order for a workbook they'll be using in his classroom. It addresses the basic concepts needed for kindergarten. One of his teachers said to me they've used it in the past and the kids love working in it. I hope Ian does!

Speaking of workbooks...anybody know where I can get some good activity books, etc. for working on writing letters and numbers? I was going to try the Parent-Teacher Store in Latham, but wondered who else had them.

    Today's question:

    What days/hours is your DC's preschool?  T/Th 8:15-11
How far do you live from the school?  (Driving time) - We only live about 10-12 mins, but because of morning traffic, it takes us about 25 to get there.
What time do you usually get there? (Our dropoff period is generally a 1/2 hour block) We get there around 8:10 - we can't get into the building until about 8/8:05 and the kids are expected to be ready to go by 8:20.

Any other updates? G is 'Special Person' right now so he got to take in a posterboard full of pictures.  They're working on collecting food for a shelter this month and making things for their 'pow wow.'  :)

  • Preschool is Wed/Fri from 9:00-11:30. It is about a 5 min drive from our house and is the only program for 2 yr olds in the area. When I drop him off it's usually right before 9am...when DH drops him off its ALWAYS late-typically 9:15 sometimes 9:30-drives me crazy.

We are thinking of pulling him from preschool until next fall. He has been sick constantly since the first of October, and I'm not sure he is getting much from "school" to make it worth it. He is so young at this point, that this semester was kind of experimental. I think he will get more out of it when he is 3. We'll see what we decide.

  • What days/hours is your DC's preschool?  Tues/Thurs, 9-12

How far do you live from the school?  12 minutes

What time do you usually get there?  9:15 LOL.  We have been on time twice and it is a major goal of mine.

Any other updates?  I really want to be happy with the school, but so far they aren't doing anything academic that I can tell (aside from calendar).  The teacher in me knows that he just turned 3 and it is okay because the social is all he needs right now, but 6 months ago he was basically (academically) kindergarten-ready, and I would like to see them at least encourage him to write his own name on his paper, or cut something by himself.  All of the artwork looks like it is more the teachers than the students.  I taught UPK (half day and 3's half day) for 3 years and have been teaching for 7, so I think I am just adjusting to someone else's way of doing things.  Plus these teachers have only taught a 2 year old class in the past.  I have 2 friends whose kids go there and they both wish there was a little more going on.

Telyco, when does he start?  That is such an big change for all of you.  How do you think he will do with it?  I hope everyone loves the new routine and you can give him lots of love when he gets home...although he will probably be exhausted, that is a really long day for a 3 year old!

Um, yeah it is a long day!!! But they are all like that here, when you are looking at classes with special needs anyway. Since he will need speech therapy and occupational therapy that is an hour a day...some kids need PT and other therapies too, so they would never even be in a classroom if it was only a 2 hour program.

We are looking at another school tomorrow and then another one later in the week..so we hope to have one chosen by next week and then start the application process. I'm assuming it will still take a few weeks before he starts. I think he is going to love it. And I do think this will be better for him than a two hour, three day a week thing...but it will be SUCH a big change for all of us. I'm pretty nervous.

  • Eve goes W and F from 10-12. I think that the school is open MWF.. but she only goes 2 days. I also have the option of sending her at 9am for an extra $10 a day.. but I haven't yet.. I'm considering it for christmas shopping time though!

It is a 3 minute drive from my house to her school.. if I hit the traffic light wrong or there is a lot of tim hortons traffic, it might take 4 or 5.

Usually sometime around 9:55.. but i take her in and get her shoes changed and her coat hung up and take her potty, I rarely leave her there before 10..And i usually pick her up a few minutes before 12.

Only update is, the kid who she wasn't getting along with got pulled out of school i think. I don't know if he just didn't like it, or the teachers told his parents he was a problem, but i know the mom decided to pull him out, he didn't get "kicked out". I feel kind of bad for him and his mom though.

  • What days/hours is your DC's preschool?  She goes T/Th from 9-11:30.

How far do you live from the school? (Driving time)  About 10 minutes depending on if I hit all the lights right!

What time do you usually get there? 9...the teacher likes us to get there right at nine, help LO sign in, get them started on some sort of activity, then get out! lol

Any other updates? Chelsea is really excited for her first playdate with a new friend from school! It is going to be this Wednesday. I'm also looking forward to getting to know the mom. She also SAH so I am hoping this could become a fairly regular thing. Also related to me, the Exec Committee (it is a co-op) has asked me to join them as vice-chair. I'm going to my first meeting tonight...a little nervous but excited to get more involved! The teacher said she is hoping to groom me to be the Chair next year...whoa! Sorry if that is to AWish...just excited to do something outside the house!

  • Eva's school is t/th 9-12.  We live just under two miles from the school and I frequently walk to pick her up if it's nice out.  We get there right at 9.

We had a harvest potluck supper Friday evening at the school and it was so nice.  We got to chat with the other parents and meet the kids in the m/w/f class.  Such a greta community building activity!
