I've got some defrosting from end of August and want to know what it should smell like, when I pump it, it doesn't smell at all, and I once thawed a bottle but didn't use it within the 12hrs and it smelled kind of like spit up, I dumped it since it was past 12hrs, but not sure if thats what bad milk smells like.
TIA

Re: So, what does thawed milk smell like if its bad?
I disagree. Bad milk smells worse than sour milk. It smells rotten. If it smells like vomit/soap/metallic it is very likely a lipase issue. That milk is fine to feed, though often babies won't take it.
We'll miss you sweet Debbie Girl (4.21.12) and sweet Cindy Girl (8.9.12)

I agree that the vomit smell is probably a lipase issue (I have one). The milk is actually fine to feed to your baby IF your baby will take it. Mine will, but I just felt weird feeding it to her, so I threw away anything with a funny taste and since discovering the issue have been scalding any milk I freeze so it doesn't go "bad".
If you are unsure if your milk is good, I would first smell it. If it smells off, toss it. If I don't scald my milk, it smells fine but acquires a vomity aftertaste after about a month in the freezer (lovely, I know). I have to actually taste it to see if anything is wrong with it. Again, my DD would drink it anyway, but I just didn't feel like feeding it to her since I was overproducing when I discovered the issue and running out of freezer space anyway.
