Shoes for *fat* baby feet?

I know that babies "technically" don't need shoes until they start walking, but if you live in a cold climate, are you buying shoes to keep their feet warm when you go out?

I got Liam his first pair of shoes and just bought the ones that said 6-9 months at WalMart, and his little feet are so *thick* that I'm wondering if they're going to be too uncomfortable for him. There's plenty of room at the ends, so that's not the issue. I really don't want to buy something crazy expensive like baby Nikes or whatever, either.

This is a pic from back in May where you can see one of his feet. Does anyone else's baby have really thick, wide feet? If so, what are you doing shoe-wise?

TIA!

  • Jack has small, thick feet...I don't really know what to do with him...he won't keep socks on so I would like to have a pair of shoes to put on him when we go out...Maybe Robeez?

  • I haven't figured this out either.  Chase has very chubby feet too, and so far I just put socks on him, or I have some footie pants.  If it is cold enough that I feel he would need more than that, I have a fleece snowsuit to put him in.  This still doesn't solve the problem of shoes, but it does delay it until he begins to walk.

i know they arent shoes but they are warm. isabella has thin small feet but she has extra baby toes on each foot. so i needed a shoe that is easy to put on her so her extras dont get bent back., hope it helps :)

  • We didn't buy shoes for DS1 until he was ready to walk.  We just put socks on his feet and covered them with a blanket if we were out.  The only decent place to get baby shoes for wide feet is Stride Rite.  Save that for when he really needs them, because they are expensive, but they hold up well.

  • Robeez, then Striderite when he starts walking.

  • My DD also has chubby feet.  I went to payless and bought her a pair of sneakers for $5, they have them in normal and wide varieties.  They had cute boots too but I couldn't stuff her feet in them to save my life!  Sneakers will be fine though, it's not like she's going to be running around in the snow.

  • The only ones that ever worked for DS as a baby were MiniStars (knockoff Roobeez) and whatever the BRU version of them are.

  • Thanks so much, everyone! I'd never heard of Robeez before (but I do know Stride Rite). It looks like what I got him was the WalMart version of this shoe:

They're really stretchy, so I think they're going to be okay. Getting them on the first time wasn't easy, though!

One of my friends (who is a shoe designer for Nike and does measurements of NBA players' feet to custom make their shoes) made a huge deal out of Liam's feet. He was all, "Wow. Liam's going to be a monster when he grows up! Look at these feet!" so I got to worrying if these regular shoes were going to work. I guess all babies in my family must have "monster feet" because I thought all babies did. Oops. Anyway, thanks again!

  • I am in the same boat. I don't think it gets too cold in NC, but we are going to Rochester, NY for Thanksgiving and shoes will be needed. Hopefully I can find something to fit my son, who had clubs for feet... got them from me :0( My main problem s socks don't fit him either! Anyone have socks to recommend?

  • My ds has chubby feet also... I've just been using shoe socks for him but I've used Robeez with my daughter when she was a baby and intend on buying ds his first pair soon since he loves to stand/jump in his jumper.

  • You think your baby has fat feet? My baby has six toes on each foot! :P He doesn't wear shoes, we just do socks. And half the time socks don't even fit.
