Girls Night at my Neighbors...Wine? [POLL]

So I'm 37w3 days and I'll be walking to my neighbors house tonight for a little girl time.  The husbands will be at another house playing poker.

I may have a glass of wine, but I haven't decided yet.  I haven't had anything alcoholic to drink thus far.

I am just curious to see what your opinions are!

  • As much as I would *love* a good glass of wine, I'm to the point where I figure I've made it this far, I might as well just make it the rest of the way.

Although I do have a tiny taste of my favorite whiskey in a little flask for once I make it through L&D and after the first feeding. I figure just a tiny taste (like, barely enough to wet my lips) will be fine.

This.  I am craving a nice glass of wine so badly right now, but I figure I have gone this long, I can wait another week or so.  I will say that if DH is drinking a beer I will have one small taste.  I'm not even talking a swig at this point...more like just letting it touch my lips.  It's just not worth the concern to me.  If you choose to, enjoy though!!

  • At this point in pregnancy some doctors/midwives actually openly recommend the occasional glass of wine.  I'd have a glass

  • My doctor actually told me if I wanted to have a small glass of wine, I could and that a glass of wine a day has been proven to help circulation a good thing for you and baby.... I have had a glass a few times in the past couple months... maybe 4-5 glasses? At a wedding in late August I also had a white Russian without the Vodka and much more cream then Kahlua... it was delicious!  ..... I agree with not drinking alcohol in excess while pregnant (or at all during the early days) but just because you have a bit doesn't mean you child will have any problems. In fact the chances that 1 glass of wine is going to hurt baby is super slim. So I say go for it... treat yourself and enjoy it! Have fun at girl's night!

  • I'm dying for a glass of wine and would be comfortable having a small one...the thing for me is that I'd be comfortable in the right setting only.  At home, it wouldn't be worth it to open a bottle of nice wine for a small glass and waste the rest (DH isn't really into wine) and most people that I know that drink wine I probably won't be comfortable having it around, like around super worrywart relatives at Thanksgiving for example.  And I would feel awkward ordering it at a restaurant.

At my appointment on Thursday, my midwife suggested I have a small glass of wine.  She said having a glass at this point in time is fine, and it would help me relax since I am overly stressed out right now and exhausted because of work.  I love her!

  • Not only do I agree with smilelari, and my midwife told me the exact same thing as well, think about what pregnancy was like when our parents or their parents were going through it - people smoked and drank and didn't think twice about it.  And we're all okay!

  • I voted that I havent't and wouldn't. Though the chance of 1 glass causing harm are slim, if it did happen to cause any harm I'd never forgive myself for not just waiting 3 more weeks. I'd also spend the next 3 weeks worrying over it. One glass of wine or 1 beer isn't worth the harm it could cause in my opinion.
  • I totally agree with PP about doctor's saying it is okay and definitely wouldn't judge anyone if they did but personally I still just wouldn't do it because I'm not a big fan of wine or any alcohol so it just wouldn't be worth it to me.

  • I voted "no" because it's true for me. I don't drink anyway pregnant or not so, not having alcohol while pregnant is no big sacrifice for me. I wouldn't judge someone who had a drink in the third trimester. Like a PP said, even the doctors are pretty much okay with it at this point. It's not like you're considering having lunch meat or something like that :)

I will say this though, if you have to give drinking THIS much thought, it seems like YOU'RE not entirely comfortable with the idea. For that reason alone, if I were you, I would not do it.
