If you were me...

I have had a horrendous week at work, culminating in my having to make a formal complaint about someone. My husband knows how stressed I am, and I just got a text from him saying he's getting a ride home because "the bastards at work got him drunk." So, I'm pissed. His car is now 45 minutes away and apparently "we'll just go get it tomorrow." So, if you're me, are you pissed? Or do you chalk it up to hormones and stress and hubby is in the clear? Trying to decide if he sleeps (read passes out) on the couch or in the bed tonite. Thoughts?

Re: If you were me...

  • Personally, I'd be pissed. No one makes you drink unless there is a gun involved. Happy he isn't driving while under the influence but pissed that he let himself get to that point. Also I'd be pissed because after a tough week, there is nothing more that I would enjoy than a glass of wine or mixed drink.

  • Oh man!  Deep breath.

Here's what I'm thinking.  Would I be mad at him?  Yup.  Would I make him sleep on the couch?  Nah.

I don't like to blame things on "hormones", but I'm certainly a lot more sensitive these days.  There has been a few times where I had to tell myself not to be mad at BF because he isn't doing anything different than he would normally do.  I'm just more of a hot mess.

I would spin this around to a positive and say, "at least he's not driving home drunk" and then I would get him to buy me lunch tomorrow when we go get his car.

    HTH!

  • Thanks for the responses. I'm also worried that he's being driven by one of the people he was drinking with...and worried that they have been drinking too. It's not his typical behavior, but I feel insensitive anyway. Ugh.

I agree with this 100%.  And I also agree with Dewey, I'd get him to buy me lunch or a pedicure or something for driving him to pick up his car tomorrow!

My love and forgiveness can be bought.

  • What is the deal with guys and peer pressure?  It's like they never grow out of it.  I would be ticked, but like pp said not to the point of making him crash on the couch.

  • I would make my DH sleep on the couch. If you have to drive 45 minutes to work...there is no excuse for drinking at all! It's a waste of money and time on everyone's behalf! It would be different if it was well planned out ahead of times and arrangements had been made, but I'd make my DH sleep on the couch for being inconsiderate! I'm mean though...

  • I would absolutely be p!ssed! But I'd make him make it up to me- as Dewey suggested, buying a meal (not McD's, either!) or pedicure. If his coworkers can 'make him drunk,' then you can make him go baby shopping- in person, with no whining.

I'm not sure which I'd be more angry about, though- getting irresponsibly sloshed at work so he can't drive home himself or having to take him to get his car the next day. I'd say both would earn separate and equal make-ups. ;)
