I want a turkey bacon cheddar flatbread sandwich from Dunkin Donuts very bad for lunch. Would this be considered deli meat and would you risk it? I know many of you have been eating deli meat. I'm one of those patients whose doctor said no deli meat whatsoever. Would you risk it? Nothing else sounds good. Those things normally come pretty steaming hot. It's fine right??? Please re-assure me before I go get this!
Re: Quick ladies? Can I have this for lunch????
As long as it is heated to steaming it should be fine.
I would personally pass though cause who knows when that meat was even sliced!
I eat deli meat, so I would have it. Have them toast it extra for you if it makes you feel better.
I think the hype over lunch meat and listeria is over the top, especially considering there are tons of other things that can carry listeria but we're not told to avoid all of those.
Right before opening this post, I polished off a roast beef and cheese sandwich with mustard and I live dangerously, I didn't heat it (gasp!)
You'll be ok.

It wouldn't even be a blip on my radar! Yum, yum, yum!
Agreed!
I'd also like to add that your choice for lunch sounds delicious. Now I want one!!!
I hope you have already enjoyed your lunch. I am just going to add when I get deli meat out I ask them to cut it fresh or make sure its extra hot.
Enjoy
Okay, so you're avoiding lunch meant because it could carry listeria, right? The point is that manyyy other things could carry it also but we don't avoid them all like the plague.

My doctor is the doctor of NO and when I inquired about deli meat she said she was more concerned with the nitrate intake than listeria contamination so I should eat in moderation.
A lot of these "don't's" are because we are a overly litigious society. So the doctor plays it safe and says no.
That said with the cantaloupe outbreak listeria is one very much on many of our minds. The media also creates a culture of fear when this stuff happens. I found it helpful to look at actual statistics on listeria and lunchmeat. You can read one here:
https://www.fsis.usda.gov/oppde/rdad/FRPubs/97-013F/ListeriaReport.pdf
To look at things in a rational and statistical manner you are far more likely to get listeria from produce and we aren't told to avoid that. You are also SO MUCH - like exponentially - more statistically likely to get in your car today and get in a fatal accident than contract listeria from your lunch....not to be morbid but it's true. And they don't tell you not to drive or get in a car for 9 months.
Enjoy your sandwich.
