Re: Fit Mama Monday Aug 20

  • What were your workout challenges and successes this week?
Exhaustion and the cold/congestion that DH shared with me were the challenges. A friend and I are doing a 15 day workout challenge and I thought it started Sunday, and missed the first workout on Saturday. But I got it done yesterday and another one during the week, so that's definitely a win!

What are your goals for this week?
Keep up with the workouts for this 15 day challenge.

What is your favorite healthy recipe these days?
I've been trying to plan healthy snacks during the day to keep me away from the vending machine. Carrots and greek yogurt dip, apples and peanut butter, cheese and meat platters, etc. I try to opt for one of these before reaching for chips or something like that. We do hellofresh during the week so I don't have too many dinner recipes lately.

  • What were your workout challenges and successes this week? Challenges are overall exhaustion. Just so tired still and MS is hanging in there. Despite all of that goodness, SLAYED the week so my success is getting five solid workouts in. Yeahhhh buddy!!! :p

What are your goals for this week? Less carbs!!! My nutrition continues to be ALL.OVER.THE.PLACE. Need to start being more mindful as opposed to giving in to all of my momentary cravings.

What is your favorite healthy recipe these days? Anything EASY. No real recipe that I’m loving at the moment, just grilling and roasting veggies. Although I have a sweet white bean chicken Chile that I’ll probably be starting soon. It’s a crockpot recipe and sooooo good with some fresh avocado and cilantro. :)

  • What were your workout challenges and successes this week? My biggest challenge was the humidity! Between my expanding blood volume and 85% humidity it was hard to catch my breath. But it was a successful week, where I walked or ran almost every day, and I got some great mileage in so I am super happy.

What are your goals for this week? I keep saying it, but I really need to add some strength training into my routine, or at least some yoga or something to balance the cardio.

What is your favorite healthy recipe these days? Last night I made my favorite butternut squash enchiladas with black bean and corn salad on the side. It’s a bit labor intensive, but it makes enough for 3 or 4 meals and reheats well, so I won’t have to cook much this week. I am also feeling zoodles with pesto, broccoli, fresh mozzarella, and tomato.

  • What were your workout challenges and successes this week? Did a workout that called for 150 sit-ups total and I did it! (Of course DH was worried if I should be doing sit-ups...told him my belly isn't in my way at this point!) Challenge was fatigue and took it slow a couple days but that's ok. Did my 5 strength workouts, a few walks during the work week and then a walk Saturday & Sunday - haven't had a weekend walk in FOREVER.

What are your goals for this week? Another week hoping for 5 strength workouts with 30 minute walks to follow.

What is your favorite healthy recipe these days? I really don't have one but am open to suggestions & ideas! I've been on the "what's quick & easy" bandwagon :)

  • What were your workout challenges and successes this week? - happy to say i got 5 days of cardio in, including one of the days that i had my nieces over! they managed to play together in my attic with me while i did the elliptical.

What are your goals for this week? - leaving for italy saturday. i won't have access to a gym for 8 days thereafter, so my goal is to work out monday through saturday (6 cardios total) before i leave for vacation and give myself a break.

What is your favorite healthy recipe these days? - my mother makes incredible homemade chicken soup which is something i've been really craving, despite the hot weather. i don't have the recipe yet but she promised to come over this week to walk me through it so i can make it myself!

  • What were your workout challenges and successes this week?
I didn't workout as much as I would like/usually do. But I did a good job of listening to my body. A few of the days, I just needed a nap, not a workout.

What are your goals for this week?
Continue listening to my body, but hopefully make it to 4 classes. 1 more than last

What is your favorite healthy recipe these days?
I agree on easy stuff and I am craving comfort food. But my meal prep this week is: 1) usual egg and turkey bacon breakfast bagel; 2) zucchini and parmesan crusted chicken with mashed cauliflower and green beans; 3) crockpot peanut chicken and broccoli over rice; and 4) spaghetti and garlic bread (splurge meal).

  • @southerngirlinwi mashed cauliflower sounds sooooo good. Do you just mash it the same way you would potatoes?
    southerngirlinwi
  • @Shelbyville30 pretty much! I cook the cauliflower until it is pretty soft, throw it in my KitchenAid mixer with the same things I used to make mashed potatoes, and mix until smooth.

  • What were your workout challenges and successes this week?
Being tired! I didn't get in as many workouts this week, but still got in 3 good workouts. A couple of days I usually workout, I took a nap instead...guess we all need to listen to our bodies as we are on our pregnancy journeys. Happy to say that I stuck to my nutrition plan! I use Isagenix and had my protein shake for every breakfast/lunch, had healthy snacks throughout the day, and a balanced dinner. Definitely loving that I have a convenient, vitamin rich nutrition plan going forward with my pregnancy!

What are your goals for this week?
Continue to stay on track with nutrition. Get in 3-4 good workouts during the week.

What is your favorite healthy recipe these days?
Favorite dinners right now include some kind of protein, sauteed veggies, and quinoa or rice. Also really liking salads and soups right now!

  • @blueberry0326 i'll have to try that protein powder! i have been really jonesing for a protein shake (i used to have them every day for lunch before i got pregnant) but i stopped because i heard those supplements are often sweetened with fake stuff and you should try to stay away from that.... i usally use isopure which is sweetened with cane sugar and huo lan guo - which i know nothing about.... but hearing someone else talk about protein shakes makes me happy!! maybe i can have them in the 2nd and 3rd tri's!
  • @indigoheightsblog - I have talked to a bunch of people who use the Isagenix protein shakes and they are supposed to be very beneficial when you are pregnant and breastfeeding because of all of the vitamins. I also okayed them with my doctor who said that everything in them is safe! I am part of a group on Facebook that I can add you to if you are interested in learning more about it! (All moms or currently pregnant who use the Isagenix products!) Let me know!

  • @blueberry0326 awesome! let me do some research and chat with my doc on friday! thanks!!
  • What were your workout challenges and successes this week? I ran about 6 miles on Saturday and it went really well. My only complaint is now I’m starting to feel it in my hips. They are sore. But I’m more motivated to run now that I’m feeling better.

What are your goals for this week? I want to say 3 runs but I’m going to shoot for 2. We will see how the week goes.

What is your favorite healthy recipe these days? I still don’t have much of an appetite for anything so fruit is my go to right now. Waiting for colder weather so I can make soups because that is all I feel like eating right now.

  • @maggiemadeitbutternut squash enchiladas with black bean and corn salad on the side!? YUMM! Can you share the recipe!?
  • @novelblessings I have been picking up my mileage the last 2 weeks because I finally have the energy, but I am noticing tight hips and my SI joint is starting to act up after the long run. I started sitting on my exercise ball instead of the chair all day and it is helping a lot!

    @AprSnow59 Sure!

  • What were your workout challenges and successes this week? My schedule is flexible and I typically spend a few days working from home and a few days working in a lab or outside where I'm on my feet most of the day. I don't even bother exercising when I'm out of the house because I'm so exhausted when I get home, but I have been getting better at forcing myself to exercise when I'm home during the day because I'm usually on my butt in front of a computer.

What are your goals for this week? I've been feeling a little less exhausted after exercising lately so I'm going to try to extend workout sessions a bit and see how I feel. My nausea is also subsiding so I'm going to try to start eating more like my pre-pregnant self (more vegetables, less carbs).

What is your favorite healthy recipe these days? I've been making "trail mix" oatmeal cookies on the weekends that have lots of nuts, dried fruit, unsweetened coconut, and dark chocolate in them. I've always liked eating two smaller breakfasts (one when I wake up, one after I take my dog for a long walk) so I've been eating one of these cookies and taking the dog out then making a smoothie when I get home. They're still cookies and have added sugar, of course, but they're pretty dense with add-ins and were something I could look forward to even when my nausea was bad. I've also just been making a lot of soup because it's an easy way for me to eat vegetables. I made minestrone last week with white beans, kale, and a bunch of zucchini from my garden and have been eating that every day for lunch.

Question: has anybody taken prenatal yoga or pilates classes? I found a pilates studio nearby that offers a prenatal class and I am tempted to sign up but have never taken a group fitness class before and am a bit intimidated. I am thinking it could be nice to be in a class with other pregnant women and it would help me stay motivated but I'm interested in hearing opinions from others!
  • @bug_hunter I've done prenatal yoga with online classes. Yogadownload.com has lots of free, quick 20 minute classes and that's what I used last time. There are also groupons for $30 year long memberships if you like it. There might be similar prenatal pilates classes and maybe after a couple at home you'll feel confident in trying out a group class.

  • @bug_hunter With my first I went weekly to a local yoga studio from about 5 months on. It was absolute heaven, and I looked forward to the “me” time every week. I was also the only pregnant person for miles on a college campus, so being around other pregnant people was really nice, and I even made a mom friend. It was very accessable and I think prenatal yoga is geared towards all levels, so it wasn’t intimidating at all.
  • @bug_hunter  Yes to prenatal yoga! I did it all through my last pregnancy and it was amazing, especially during the third tri when my body was particularly cranky. Loved my instructor, find one you like and go for it! :)
  • @bug_hunter I did some prenatal yoga through an app with my last pregnancy and it was so good for relief. My advice is to not be intimidated or feel like you "don't belong" if there are women there with huge baby bumps. I know its easy to feel like you don't belong if you're not hugely pregnant but we will all be there soon enough :) (I give that advice based on a pre-baby class I took last time around where I felt dumb because there were ladies there about to pop and I was just hanging out with my little bump.)
  • What were your workout challenges and successes this week?
I continue to be perpetually exhausted and nauseous, so my workouts were non existent. I have still been able to keep up with my 10,000 step goal most days, and did manage to put in 19,000 steps on my Fitbit one day, between walking my own dog and volunteering at the animal shelter. Granted it wiped me out so much that I didn't leave my couch until like 1pm the next day, so I'm still not sure that counts as a success.  :(  I'm really frustrated. I was no athlete before pregnancy by any means, but I would say I had an average to moderate level of fitness, and now I feel like a fat, lazy slug all the time.  :(

What are your goals for this week?
Gonna try to get in at least 2 real workouts, and keep up with trying to get at least 10,000 steps in every day. Also trying to carb less. Not an easy thing to do when the nausea just won't give up.

What is your favorite healthy recipe these days?
Not a recipe exactly, but we went out for dinner the other night after a concert, and since I've had an aversion to French fries, I ordered the sweet potato mash with my meal instead. OMG, I swear it tasted like the best thing my pregnant self has eaten in the last 11 weeks
    :D
  • Thanks for all of the advice/encouragement! It's also good knowing that there are cheaper online options. The prenatal pilates classes are so pricey that I couldn't go too often but it could work to go occasionally for the social aspect and then also practice at home.
  • @bug_hunter if you have amazon prime video, netflix, or hulu I suggest doing a quick search for prenatal workout videos. I found a couple prenatal yoga classes on amazon but I haven't tried any yet. There's lots of free content on the internet as well. The only real benefit you can't get from a class, especially if you are a beginner is someone to correct your positioning so that you are doing any positions or exercises correctly so you get the maximum benefit and don't hurt yourself.

  • What were your workout challenges and successes this week? I was just exhausted and busy so it was really hard to find the time to work out. I walked most days but i didn’t get to thme gym at all.

What are your goals for this week? Just want to feel better about my exercising routine. I don’t want to put a number of my workout goals. I just want to not feel like I’m laying around doing nothing.

What is your favorite healthy recipe these days?  Baked chicken (I lightly coat it in flour, cinnamon, and garlic) with a veggie
  • @novelblessings I’ve also really been craving soup. I made minestrone the other night because we had a rare 70 degree day and that felt cold enough for me.
