Which window dressings are safe for nurseries?

I have slat blinds on my windows right now and likely will not replace them prior to our little arrival.  I wanted to make blackout curtains, but I'm concerned that they might pose a safety hazard.  I hate the look of curtains that stop a few inches below the window sill.  Is there any solution for me?

  • You can have floor length curtains.  Just hang the curtain with the clip rings so they will pull down if pulled too hard.  Also, you are never supposed to put the crib in front of a window.  Don't use any kind of blinds/shades with long cords (avoid them at all if you can).

  • I am using floor length curtains but like previous poster said, I am using the rings with clips.  That way, if they pull on the curtain the curtain will pop off and they won't bring down the whole rod.  I have a cordless blind underneath the curtain.

  • We skipped curtains in his nursery since we didn't want to have to worry about him pulling them down.  Instead we have blackout cordless mini blinds that we bought at Lowes - they work great.
