Three weeks ago I saw the "bloody show" (very new as I was induced with our 2 other children) and wondered if our babies would be here soo as I know it can be a hit or miss....=) - I found out for me, they would be on their way 12 hours later my water broke at 7:05 in the morning. I decided I would get back into bed and relax after I got up and went to the restroom, and as soon as I got comfortable my water broke. DP jumped out of bed so fast when I mentioned that I needed a towel she looked like a cat that had been sprayed with water=) She works in EMS so it was wonderful watching her out of her element because these babies were "hers" as opposed to just a "strangers"=) She has actually delivered out in the field so it was super cute to almost see her run in place trying to figure out what was happening next! Love her!
After getting up and showered I finally started to feel some contractions. Then after getting my kids bags packed and giving some instructions to my mom that had come over to handle them while we were gone, we were on our way. We got to the hospital a little before 9. Once I was settled in triage, I was excited to see the Dr. that delivered our son last year was there. I had discussed and scheduled a c-section with my OB as baby B was breech so we were caught off guard when this Dr. mentioned that I was a perfect candidate for a vaginal delivery as I have had 2 children before and both of these babies were small. There was another Dr. that was also on that was going to assist that was an "expert" in these types of deliveries so I felt very comfortable giving it a go. I was checked at about 9:45 and was 5cm dilated. By this time those contractions were rather ouchy so I got my epidural. Once settled in a room I was checked again an hour later and was at 6 1/2 then at about 12:45 I felt super nauseous, DP remembered this as a sign from last time that I should be complete. She got the Dr, and sure enough I was. We headed to the OR. I have to say that at that time I did get rather nervous as things were happening so fast. It took longer to get the room and teams set up than it did for me to push those babies out
. Born at 35 weeks 4 days, Benjamin Nicholas arrived at 1:44 and weighed in at 4lbs 4oz. Sophia Catherine came out feet first at 1:49 and weighed in at 5lbs 7oz. Both babies required no additional care, but due to size Benjamin was sent to the NICU. He stayed for a week. We were able to board at the hospital after S and I were discharged and were happy we got to remain in our private room. He came home weighing in at 4lbs 5oz after dropping down to 4lbs 1oz. He is still a tiny guy, up an additional 3 oz since we have been home!
We are trying to adjust and keep them on the same schedule. Johnathan is doing ok with the babies being home, loves to give kisses, but definitely wants a lot more attention now that our time is divided. As for our thirteen year old, she is being a big help, but she too has needed some additional cuddles from both of us=) Our house is a complete mess, but we love it! Thank goodness I have DP here with me for at least another 6 weeks!
