Upstate NY Babies

I think this is my third time posting this...Minivan v SUV ?s

Well we're at this point again...and I'm sorry that I keep posting about this.

DH has a little car and now that he is going to be driving Evan to school everyday he is insisting on getting a better car with AWD. IF IF IF we have another baby next year or the following year...we'll need a three rower. So it would be stupid to have to get one car and then trade it in in a year. So I guess we are going to look at 3 rowers. like now.

I finally talked DH into at least looking at a minivan...and the Toyota Sienna is the only one (we think) that has AWD. So we'll be looking at tha one for sure.

We're gonna look at the Ford Explorer, mostly b/c we can get the Xplan discount through his cousin who works at Ford.

What else should we look at - the Acadia is on my list.

Any other minivan vs SUV thoughts?? In the newer minivans, can you walk straight from the front to the back? I see the console thing in the photos but is that collapsible? This would be a HUGE benefit.

Thanks!!

Is it hard to get into the back seat? I have been leaning toward captains chairs for the second row.

You have the captain's seats in your second row? I bet he loves sitting in the back all by himself!

well its not as easy as it would be if I had captain chairs- but I was about the room and when we went car shopping I had my BIL and DH sit in the 3rd row- and they were comfortable (both are over 6 ft. and when I looked at someother 3rd vehicles they couldnt fit) and with the 3rd row up I could fit the stroller and still had decent room...

    so those were my "needs"

Yep, 2 captains chairs & the bench in the back.

I kind of wish he was in the other captain's chair, but I watch a 4 month old one day a week so I need it open for him and for #3 in a few months anyways.  Charlie does love it back there though!

Hmm..I think I just have to look at it myself. I don't think we would have adults sitting in the back for long trips - well, unless it was me. And I'm thinking if we have number three - L&E would be in the back and I would be in the middle with the baby. I'm thinking it would be easier to buckle them in without collapsing my seat.

I have heard lots of people talk about 3rd row room (well, the lack of it) in a lot of models so I was thinking about this too. But now I'm wondering when we would even have an adult back there. I don't think we'll have this car for so long that we would need to worry about room for our teens (eeek! teens!)

  • DH was really hoping I would like the chevy traverse.  But it was just too big for me to drive.  Backwards at least, I felt ok going forward.  But I am a sucky driver, and used to a car, so it was a big step for me.  I ended up going with the equinox and love it, but if we were planning on having a third kid, we would have gone for that, and I just would have kept circling and never backed up haha.
  • The versatility of my mini van is priceless as are the sliding doors. If I ever give it up I will miss those doors the most. My seats fold down into the floor if I need space, they pop up when I need seats. I am able to open the doors before I get to the car and have the kid(s) in and out of the weather/parking lot super quick. I never have to worry about a door getting opened into another car causing damage....nor am I stuck if someone parks too close.

I have 2 captains chairs and a full bench in back. When I nannied I had the seats full, I had no problem getting into the "way back" to get someone buckled. The rear seat is also pretty comfortable for an adult.

  • We rented a Sienna this year for our trip.....loved it!  And now I get to drive one for work.  We just got this yesterday as one of our company cars.  Or what about a Chevy Traverse?  My friend has one and loves it.
