Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Anyone here adopt their LO?

I met a couple on the 0-3 month board that had also adopted their LO, wondering if there is anyone around this board also!

Re: Anyone here adopt their LO?

  • We did not but have often thought about it.  Would you mind sharing your story on how you got started in the adoption process? timeline? cost? I would love to know more!

Well, my adoption story isn't quite the normal at all, but I would love to share my story... although mine went so fast and smooth, it's not the typical story.

The first weekend of June we were sitting at the river with family and talking, and I explained how I couldn't believe that I was getting ready to turn 30 years old and didn't have kids yet, didn't know how that had happened (dealt with IF for 2 years). My brother in law said "Kelly, as fast as you are, you could decide to have a baby now and 'pop it out' before your birthday" I told him it was 2 months away and "even I'm not that good".

Well, exactly 1 hour later (10:30 pm) we got home and I was sitting on the couch with dh and got a text from my cousin (that we don't talk to too often, but love her and worked with her) that said "have a friend who's daughter is having a baby, can't care for it, do you want it?" I about fell off the couch considering the conversation we had just had at the river 1 hour before... I continued to text through the night with my cousin about details etc, and she got me to texting the bgrandma, then the next day text the bmom... and the rest is history. Exactly 50 days after that first text, she was born with us there at the hospital, best day of my life. AND... it was JUST two weeks before my 30th birthday, so guess my bil was right!! :o)

So, financially it hardly cost us at all, we were responsible for her hospital bill (the LO, not the bmom) and a small fee for an attorney to file the paperwork. I would suggest others to look into adoption though, it has been wonderful!

  • Not yet... We were halfway through the adoption process with DHS when we found out I was pregnant. I had been told that with my history of endo/PCOS and my age, I'd never get pregnant on my own, and we decided that fertility treatments weren't for us. And then, surprise! Unfortunately I miscarried my first and then got pregnant again two months later with Harlow. We finished the process and will most likely adopt #2. I've always wanted to adopt, so I honestly was okay with however I ended up having my kiddos. I loved reading your story about Hadley. It's so amazing how things work out, isn't it?!

  • That is a wonderful story!  If anyone else wants to share their stories I would love to hear them!  Its too bad the Bump doesn't have a board to people that aretrying to or have or have been adopted!

  • Definitely a great story! I can tell how much you love your LO. Congratulations on the adoption!

Um, they do. Look at the left column. There is an "Adoption" board.

  • Our LO is adopted!  But I think we talked on the 0-3 month board.

  • I adopted but a bit differently.  We adopted frozen embryos.  A couple at the fertility clinic did IVF and ended up with 15 embryos.  With their first transfer they had twins and decided not to have anymore.  They gave the remaining embryos to us.  So I am technically an adoptive mom who was pregnant.

He looks just like you! Maybe it's the faces you're making in your avatar and sig, but I think there really is a resemblance :)

OP- that is an amazing story! Your daughter is beautiful.

I didn't adopt, but I am adopted also and so are my two brothers.  Growing up I felt special b/c my parents worked so hard to get me.  We also celebrated our "gotcha day", which was the day we came home as well as celebrating our birthdays.   Also, when people ask if I want to find my "real parents'  I tell them they are at home where they have always been.  My parents are my real parents, they raised me, loved me, took care of me, and supported me.  After having my LO, I feel even more blessed for the amazing family that I have.
