PT question

How long to you keep your DC sitting on the potty when you are PTing? DS will go sit on the potty just fine for about 1 minutes & then decides it times to get up. Should I have him sit there longer? Sorry I'm clueless about this & could find the answer when I googled it.

    We set a timer for 5-10 minutes and told him he had to sit and try to go potty until the timer went off.  That worked but sometimes he still tried to get up before it went off so I bribed him with sticker books.

    ditto about 5-10 mins. every half hour or so to start.

    We did games, we looked at books, sang songs. Made up potty songs! Good times. Anything and everything I could do to get him to sit there. And then an m&m for pee and 2 m&m's for poop. I'm not against bribing aha

    I waited to potty train until DD was telling me she had to go before she went in her diaper.  At that point she would sit down and go right away.  It doesn't really work to make it a battle of wills and force them to sit longer, at least it didn't for us.

    thanks for the replies, I was thinking that the 1 minute wasn't long enough to go. Yup, I am bribing with m&ms too :)

    We just tried it with a book & he did sit there a lot longer.?
