Thanks everyone for the sympathy and advice a few weeks ago about our crazy adolescent lab. We have taken some action and things are starting to get a little better. We got him some new treat-dispensing toys (the tug-a-jug and the buster cube) and some other fun squeaky toys, which help to keep him more occupied. We signed up for a basic obedience class that will start next week, and the trainer is willing to do an in-home session to help work on his more difficult behaviors. We hired a dog-walker to come over 2 days a week when the babysitter is here so that she won't lose her mind with the toddlers and the dog. We're using the crate more and he really likes it since he gets lots of good treats when he's in it. And, I'm still trying to get my a$$ moving to run 2 miles with him every morning (some days are harder than others).
And, the best part is that Zoey has learned how to put treats in a kong (with my help so they're really stuck in there), say "sit" and give the hand signal, and then give him the kong once he sits. He loves it b/c she's so obsessed with doing it that he gets a million treats in a row. I really hope this helps him to see that the babies have to be respected too!

I am so, so glad to hear that!
It's great that you are teaching the kids to give commands. So far all DD will say to our dogs is, "No, no, no, no, no!" or "Shhhhhh!!"

Good for you! We had a rough go with our pup, and had to find him a new home. We took our time with it, and he now actually lives 3 doors down, and is SO SO happy (and we are too!) It was hard, and we did hire a trainer to come to the house, ect.
Another suggestion that helped keep him occupied was to put peanut butter in a kong, and freeze it. It kept Henry busy for HOURS. In the summer, we would freeze pieces of meat in ice cubes too, and he would have a ball with them.
ha. It's not so much that I'm teaching her - she watches us do it and then INSISTS on doing it herself. We're just trying to stay one step ahead of her most days!
The other two are definitely good with the "shhh" when he barks!
