Trying to Get Pregnant

reading an OPK stick?

So the past 2 months I've used the digital CBE OPK's and loved them. But wanted to try to save a little $$$ and bought the grocery store brand OPK's that were on sale. I used one for the first time this morning, and found how difficult they are to read!! The instructions said that if the line was as dark as the control it was positive, no line or lighter line was negative. I got an instant line in the test slot, that was just a faint bit lighter than the control. But it looked positive to me. I know you're supposed to test in the afternoon, so I'm going to try again later today as well.

So my question, does a test line always show up with these and you have to determine the SHADE of the line? If so, I'm going back to digital. Way to hard to read!

Re: reading an OPK stick?

  • I have two lines every single time, they just vary with intensity of color.  You are right, the test line has to be just as dark as or darker than the control line.  It is the shade of the line that matters, not just the fact that there is a line.

  • You are exactly right. You may sometimes not get a test line, but, personally, I almost always get a test line, and you have to read the color. It was a PITA at first, but, after a few cycles I've learned how to read them pretty easily.
