Post-Coital?

My OB has requested a post-coital test.  I'm hesitant - as I've seen a lot of comments on TB regarding it being archaic and unbeneficial.  So, how many of you have had a post-coital test not related to IUI or a medicated cycle?  Was it beneficial?  Does your OB/RE think it's worthwhile?[Poll]
Me: 32, DH: 45... TTC #1 since May 2010
July - Nov 2011: Testing with OB... OB said everything looks good
March - Sept 2012: Moved to RE.. 4 treatment cycles - responses of one or no follicles
09.03.12: Diagnosed Poor Ovarian Response.. DE IVF only option
Feb - Nov 2012: Pursued Adoption. That door slammed shut.
12.23.12: Surprise BFP (first ever)... 12.25 - 12.31: Natural M/C

Re: Post-Coital?

  • My RE thinks that it's stupid since IUI negates the issue.  He likes to do IUI with everyone, instead of TI, just because it slightly increases your chances and eliminates those types of problems.  They also like the sperm wash aspect of IUI, he thinks that gives sperm a "wake up" even if you don't have MFI.

If you want to do it, go for it, but my understanding is that most places don't do it anymore.

I would only do it if financially IUI was out of the question.

  • It was my PC last month that told my RE that we needed to go on to IUIs because the Clomid affected my CM and the sperm were not able to swim through it.  Without this knowledge, we would have done TI instead and would not have known that our chances of getting KU that way were very slim.  I can't imagine how that information could not be beneficial or what could be archaic about this test.

You should ask about this on 3T, since most women on TTGP wouldn't know about this if they are not under the treatment of a doctor to get KU.
