I am a senior receptionist at a very large, very busy veterinary hospital. It is not uncommon for me to take my smock off and hang it in the closet so I don't have to worry about ironing it lately. So Thursday night I am getting ready to leave and I do this, putting on my black little shrug, looking cuter than most people who wander in the office at this time of night. As I walk out the door, apparently the woman who my new hire was helping, went off on how huge I am for only being 5 months and it's going to be a 10 pound baby with "a lot" of work to get off afterwards. My new hire tells me this Friday morning, backing with, don't worry I told her you were 6.5 month and we thought you look great that you've only gained 6 pounds since the beginning. Knowing my girl she said it with attitude which normally I would correct except this time I didn't why in the world do complete strangers feel they have the right to make comments on pregnant peoples body? Seriously irked me.
Re: Stupid people, stupid comments.
YES!!!
Exactly! I am only 5'4" and all belly
I had this really overweight woman comment on how huge I was. She went on and on and on. The mean part of me wanted to shout, REALLY??? Then she's like, you're having a boy, right? I was like, uh, yeah, but I carried the same with my DAUGHTER. She seemed to ignore that and was pleased with her correct prediction. Lol. I'll never forget that weirdo.
I'm a vet tech, and thankfully no client has commented on how huge I am, but I'm tired of the "Aw! You're having a puppy!" or "Is there only one or are you having a litter?"
Soooo irritating and totally cliche. Ugh, people just can't keep their mouths shut. Hopefully things get better for you at work!

I'm an RVT as well, on a mission to get the front staff up to par. I have been for a tech for almost 10 yrs. People think that they are soo cute when they come up with that stuff , huh?
Too bad they are far from cute comments. It isn't easy being in our field and pregnant, is it?

Yeah that's so annoying... I think people feel like they just HAVE to show off that they know something about pregnancy even if they know nothing... Like a girl from my office (se's about24 and straight out of college...) who every time she sees me continues to tell me to get ready bc it will be such a huge change in my life.. No *** - you think so? And what do YOU know about that??
I don't get it. Before I was pregnant I always just told all prego women I met that they looked beautiful, regardless of what they actually looked like. Can't go wrong with a little flattery. Especially in case of a poor bloated pregnant woman who feels like a whale every day. More people should do that...
I've noticed that the few people who have made rude comments to me (such as my mom's friend yesterday, who kept asking if I was sure I wasn't having twins -- to which I just responded, No, I'm just growing a football player), have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING GOING FOR THEM. As in, I'm pretty sure their lives suck.
So, just consider the source. If someone says something totally rude and out of line to you, chances are they're an idiot. You can either 1) blow them off, or 2) say something rude back. Both are good options. Just don't let them bring you down!
