Hello!
I am new to the board, but haven't seen my exact dilemma so I thought I would ask for some opinions. We are due in March 2012 and have chose Connor as a first name for our baby boy. DH picked the name and I agreed to it. For the middle name we were thinking either of David (my fathers name) or James (his fathers name). I like both, but prefer David. Also, I don't want his name to be shortened to "CJ". Now my husband says that we shouldn't pick David because my FIL's feelings will be hurt. I am just very annoyed because my FIL has always been very emotional and has tried to make DL feel guilty about many things, which just causes DH to stress. It am frustrated because I feel like my FIL's feelings shouldn't have a factor in this decision. Of course, we could always think of another name, but I really like Connor David.... thoughts?
Re: Middle Name Help
I'd go with your father's name for a few reasons: sounds like your husband picked Conor first and you agreed, your FIL's wishes should not be more important than yours and if the baby has your husband's last name, it seems only fair for him to have your father's name for the middle one. (I realize most people won't agree with the third reason, but that's the way I think.)
We just had a similar situation. husband suddenly got it into his head we should use his grandfather's father's name for the middle one (who he never met). We'd already agreed on a name from my family though and, as I pointed out, we are using his last name for the baby. I think sometimes people get so excited that they can forget the baby is a member of both sides of your family. . .
I agree about the baby having your DH's last name, so your father's name should be priority. This is what DH and I agreed to if baby is a boy (which it's not).
A couple other options if DH won't budge... Ditch Connor and make the name David James [last name]. Or go with 2 middle names Connor David James [last name]. Maybe not ideal, but plenty of people use 2 middles.
Good luck!
I think that this makes a lot of sense. Also, I like Connor David better anyway.
