Sleeping position?

Hi! I just got my BFP on Thursday and I'm wondering when I need to worry about what position I sleep in. I sleep on my stomach and sides typically and I know at some point that will have to change. Anyone know? Thanks so much!

  • I know they say laying on the left side is best for blood flow.  As far as stomach, I know with my DD I slept on my stomach sometimes until I was about 4 months.  I stopped because I felt her push on me while doing it and then I realized perhaps I was squishing her.  I think it's safe until you start showing.

This.  I still sleep on my back and stomach sometimes.  A position will get uncomfortable for you before it can hurt the baby.

  • From what I have read, sleeping on your side (left side preferrably - but they say either side will do) is best for the baby.  My husband bought me one of those full-size Boppy pillows to sleep with and it is wonderful!  If you have trouble sleeping on your side, I highly recommend the Boppy.  It's shaped kind of funny, sort of like a "C" and has a place for your head, a place that will support your growing belly, and then a place that supports your thighs that you straddle when you sleep.  We found ours at Target.  Good luck!

This. I sleep pretty much any way that's comfortable. Sleeping on your back isn't an issue until later in your pregnancy.

  • I was told that your body will tell you when it needs to change positions (i.e. when you're on your back and your uterus cramps your lungs making it hard to breathe). Side sleeping promotes better blood flow than sleeping on your back or stomach but it's not 100% required. I'm 34 weeks and the only thing I find uncomfortable is any kind of laying on my stomach, it just feels like there is a ball in the way.
