Breastfeeding

donating breastmilk?

Anyone know if you can donate milk somewhere? A friend has an oversupply and would like to donate it. I'm in Western MA if that helps. TIA

Re: donating breastmilk?

  • Contact your local La Leche League or a local LC. They should be able to point you in the right direction.

  • Search for places to donate near where she lives.  Make sure where you donate is a not for profit to ensure they are not over charging for milk.  Donation to recipiant should work a lot like donating blood does.  The donor doesn't get money and the recipiant only pays due to the cost to process the milk and make it safe.

There are also FB groups, I believe Eats on Feets is one, that are local groups that help link up area families that can share on a personal level.

Personally I donated to the NFP Mother's Milk Bank of Ohio.  The milk is processed and used in NICUs.

  • Thanks! I'll pass the info along.
