My husband is from Texas, so I know I'm supposed to root for the Rangers. However, my team is a NL team (the Mets - sigh), so out of solidarity I'm secretly pulling for the Cards.
I think they're coming off a big high from last night, so I voted Cardinals.
I live in Houston so I should really root for the Astros, but they stink and therefore I cheer for the Rangers, however I voted for the Cardinals because I feel like the team I cheer for always ends up choking.

Good strategy--I should have voted that way, too, in that case!
I am a lifelong Cubs fan (see my child's name in ticker). Therefore, the Cardinals can suck a big one. Go Rangers!
I am just now becoming interested in this sport, and since my DH's family is from Chicago and are huge Cubs fans, I am taking a liking to the Cubs as well.
However, I am confused and am wondering if someone here can help me: I know a lot of people who flat-out hate the Cubs. Why do they hate them so fiercely? The Cubs don't even win. Wouldn't you rather feel pity than hate for a team that hasn't won a World Series since 1908?

All I know is Cubs and Cards are rivals. Where I live, people go either way in regards to which team they root for.

The Cubs are a little like the Yankees, to a lesser degree. I feel gross even typing that. WGN started airing Cubs games in the 80s. Back then, you would get your local team only, and not every game. WGN is a national (sort of) network, so people all over the country could watch a Cubs game every day. Because of this, they gained fans all over the country since their games were so accessible. With that comes an equal amount of dissension.
Also, the Cubs used to have a reputation as being the "Lovable Losers." When the Wrigley family owned them from the 20s to the 80s, they were more interested in people having a good time at the ballpark than having a winning team. Hence the "Lovable Losers" title and Wrigley Field being known as The Friendly Confines. When the Tribune company bought them in the 80s up until the Ricketts bought them a few years ago, they have been trying to win. Then in 2003 when all the postseason drama happened, the Sammy Sosa scandal of the early 2000s, and changes in attitude, the "Lovable Losers" title kind of faded away. They had a couple of years where they were kind of @ssholes.
Hopefully with Theo Epstein coming in and trying to turn things around, they can go back to being the good-time organization they used to be. And winning would be great too
That was probably more than what you were looking for

My DH says it's because Cubs fans take such huge pride in the fact that their team hasn't won a World Series in over 100 years- it's like a huge joke. I guess to each their own.

Very helpful--thank you! There is so much history with these teams, there's no way I can possibly know all of this since I'm just now tuning in. But I look forward to learning as much as I can!

Lol, exactly. Seems kind of silly to me. As a Yankees fan I concentrate all of my "baseball hatred" on the Red Sox

Cool, so its a guaranteed Rangers win!

I'm from Houston so am blah on both the Rangers (Dallas) and the Cards. However, I'm stuck between pulling for a Texas team and wanting Lance Berkman, who was with the Astros for so long, to win a WS ring.

Didn't know this! I have a lot to learn...
