Winter jackets/coats

Well, it appears that the cold weather will be making an appearance here in Texas this week. I need to buy a winter jacket but I'm not sure what style and size. I'm only 21 weeks right now, but it's hard to gauge how big I'll get in the next few months. I really don't want to HAVE to buy another jacket because I outgrew this new one.

 Does anyone have any advice?

Re: Winter jackets/coats

  • i got a mens XXL coat.. it was cheaper.. and i'm really only using it for out in the bush so being fashionable isn't key..

I don't see the point in spending a lot on a maternity coat when a mens XXL will work fine.. and they can be picked up cheaply at 2nd hand stores..

  • I bought a large size womens fleece. I figured if it is super cold I will just layer. It was brand new only $14.99 and it is a cute red color so it can go with all colors of pants :-)
  • Will any of your older jackets still work? I'm 26 weeks and amazingly still fit into one of my jackets. It's a pea coat with buttons up on the breast part and not around the belly so it's able to flare out around my baby bump.

Otherwise, you could find a used jacket at a resale or consignment shop in a size bigger (which will probably come in handy post-baby too). I also have stolen my SO's coat a few times, altho it looks silly and baggy on me, but it zips :)

  • I bought an empire waist pea coat from Old Navy.  I still wore it last year even when I wasn't pregnant and I felt like it looked decent.  I was due in April before, so not quite as big during winter months, but I felt like it worked really well.
  • I live in MN and never bought a new coat when I was pg with DD. My Columbia winter coat was roomy enough that It was only the last month or so that I couldn't zip it up. Then I just snapped the top couple buttons and left the rest open.

Unless you can find something second hand or get something inexpensive like a fleece in a larger size I wouldn't worry about it.

I recommend Old Navy as well. I just ordered my winter coat from them a couple days ago. :)

I might do this as well and then get a fashionable coat from Old Navy or something.  I live in Wisconsin so I am worried that most maternity coats won't cut it in the below zero temps.

Ditto this. . . though I'm short and small, so I'm hoping a larger womens coat may work.  (Really I only need it for recess duty-- the rest of the time I stay inside).  Goodwill is my friend.  :)
