Anyone tilt the crib mattress (for reflux)?

The pedi recommended we adjust one side of the crib on the lower hook to angle it to help her with reflux (in addition to zantac).  Maybe its a 15-20 degree angle?  Certainly not steep.  We've done this for nearly 3 weeks now and D no longer suddenly wakes up screaming or with spit up on her face - great!

BUT...I found her this morning upside down in her crib!  Her head was down where her feet should be.  We still swaddle when she's in her crib (I might stop this soon), but she has been rolling/scooching down to the bottom of her crib lately and this morning she was completely turned around.  It took me a long time to soothe her crying, as I'm guessing she either had reflux or a headache from being upside down.

Should we kill the incline?  I would prefer to stop the zantac, I think her reflux is rather mild, but this can't be good/safe.  WWYD?

Re: Anyone tilt the crib mattress (for reflux)?

  • My daughter has reflux and we tilt the mattress slightly.  To prevent her from scooching around in there we put her in a cradle nest thing.  So we have the nest thing in the crib, which is tilted, and it is too small for her to turn herself around.

  • My LO had reflux (I stopped the meds at about 3 1/2 months, she'll be 6 months Saturday). I would put a rolled up small towel underneath her sheet in the form of a "U" under her bottom and it kept her in place. She only sleeps in her crib for naps and with me in bed at night- and I kept her inclined on a flat bed pillow all night long- if she rolled off I just took the pillow away during the night. (~~GASP~~~  LOL). Now she's great. GL!!
  • DS has been in his crib with an incline for reflux since around 8w and he also turns upside down by the morning. I tried taking the incline out and both nights he was up several times crying, so I put it back in. I don't mind that he is upside down, he is safe in the crib. We'll probably attempt again to take the incline out around 6m. He is still super fussy and is also swaddled still.

  • Our crib is like this.  We bought some sheets that are more textured and he doesn't slide much.   The one that works the best is the clouds and stars zippered sheets with the mink sheet topper.  We also have a velour like sheet that works really well (some organic sheet from Buy Buy Baby...I can find it online if you would like).  I tried flannel and it is ok but not great....but still better than a regular sheet.

  • Our LO's bed has an incline (a wedge we bought at BRU)... she was squirming around so we rolled up 2 receiving blankets and stuck them under her armpits.  Hasn't squirmed around since.
