  • Here is a potentially flame worthy one... How do some couples expect to pay for a child when buying a $15 baby swing is a struggle.. And this type of struggle is a seemingly constant occurrence. I know money isn't everything.. And it's not for me to judge someone else. I'm truly not trying to. I just honestly don't understand.
    Me: 32, DH: 45... TTC #1 since May 2010

I dont believe in bachelorette or bachelor parties. If you are in a serious relationship and plan on getting married, you already are commited so why the hell would you need 'one last' night of freedom?! Personally, I am glad we didnt participate in one. Who wants their DH fantasizing about some stripper the night of your wedding?!

Not every bachelor party is like that, my DH's didn't have any strippers it was just his guy friends and they went to a recreation park with climbing walls and go carts. Then they drank at an apartment and roamed around town (2 guys did end up getting arrested, but that's a different story). For us it was just one of the last times all our friends could be in one place just to hang out.

My husband and his friends went to the State Fair and ate themselves silly.  Me and my girls went to a nice dinner and then the casino.  They aren't always as depicted in the movies

Those parties all sound like fun and completely respectable. I am just saying a true 'stereotypical' bachlorette/bachelor party. I live in a small and conservative town but I am shocked by how many of my coworkers/friends chose to have the whole trashy stripper, penis cake party lol...I know movies always make them seem more so 'sex' themed but that is not where I am referencing from..

I hate the current trend in kids' sports of giving participation awards, no score-keeping, and the thinking that "everyone wins." Everyone does not win. That's life. Children have to learn to be graceful as both losers and champions. Not teaching them to lose is setting them up for a lifetime of obnoxious entitlement.

    TTC #1 since Aug. 2010

    OB/GYN: DH SA (Sept. 2011): Normal -- Round 1 (11/27/11): 50mg Clomid = BFN -- Round 2 (12/27/11): 50mg Clomid = BFN

Hormone specialist: CD 21 b/w (May 2012): Normal -- Thyroid: slightly low

RE: CD 2 b/w (Oct 2012): Normal -- HSG (Oct 2012) - normal (for the most part), Retroverted/Retroflexed Uterus. Otherwise normal shape and no tubal blockages.

She KNEW she o'd on the 19th because she had EWCM. So she listed out how she felt every day since the 19th. Every day she listed that her vag felt tighter (amoung other symtoms). She started testing at 7dpo and was asking if all of that looked like pregnancy.

I think the issue is that so many women who claim to be "feminist" are really just man-haters.  A true feminist believes women are equal to, not better than, men.  I have no issues with true feminists, but the man-hater wannabes drive me up the wall

I kind of feel the same way. DH and I still had them -- but his was just a camping trip with the guys, and mine was wine tasting and a BBQ with the girls. It ended up just being a couple of events to celebrate our upcoming wedding, and relax a little from all of the wedding planning, with our friends. I've definitely been to some "wild" bachelorette parties, but always find myself thinking that if the bride/groom needs a wild, sexually charged party where they're flirting with/being gyrated on by someone other than their fiance, then perhaps they're not actually ready to settle down...

  • I can't stand it when people dress babies/toddlers like little thugs/"gangstas". I know it's because it's what the parents idolize (and thus, they think it's "cute")... but it makes me think that it's just a sign of a real thug/"gangsta" in the making, and of parents that probably shouldn't be breeding (and yes -- I think there are some people that shouldn't breed).

I am not talking a small one in some lower corner you would have to really look for, I mean when the name of the photographer absolutely taking up some whole corner. I have been seeing it a lot with some of the children?s portraits posted around the bump- cute photo except my attention will keep getting pulled by some curly lines and a name.

Giant water marks in photos generally means that those photos may not have been paid for.

DH is a photographer, and that is standard practice for sending proofs out for approval. The idea is that people will be less likely to post/print those photos if they have a giant watermark obscuring the image.  Obviously that doesn't stop people, but that's the general idea.

Agreed. There are just some things we can't do. We're not built the same. It's okay that we're unlikely to be 6'7" and play in the NFL. It's those qualities - or maybe lack of them - that make us attractive to men, just like their broad shoulders and strong jawlines attract us to them (among other things, and yes, I realize we all have different tastes). But if you want to be a firefighter, you have to be able to perform at their level - you wouldn't feel pity on a scrawny guy and and let him be a firefighter just because it's his dream. If he can't perform, he can't perform. End of story.

I agree 100%.  I think this falls under equality.  If women want to be treated equally that means no special treatment.  If a woman can try out for the NFL and kick some arse, then she should have every right.  That is what I think feminism is.

    What she said.

I am a photographer and I use my watermarks on proofs. When a client PURCHASES a photo, then I remove the watermark. If you are seeing photos with the watermark still on them, chances are the photo has either not been paid for, or the client just saved the proof on their computer and uploaded somewhere else.

I thought this was common knowledge as I have never had a client question a watermark? Hmm.

I didn't have it with my wedding photographer and only since I have been on here have seen photos like that at all, so I was worried that this was some sort of new trend. Unpaid proofs, ok, I get that.

I think people co-opt the word feminist for man-haters in order to scare people away from considering themselves feminists.  This is not the original intent of the word.  My all-time favorite quotes on the subject are: I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is:  I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a door mat or a prostitute.  ~Rebecca West, "

    and

Feminism is the radical notion that women are people.  ~Cheris Kramarae and Paula Treichler

As for the discussion regarding female NFL linebackers or firefighters.  You are missing the point.

    Yes

I don't believe men should be the bar in which women live under, equal to, or above.  I think maleness and femaleness diversities and similarities should be embraced and not have one (or more) characteristics/traits be privileged above others, regardless of sex/gender.

    :::gets of soapbox:::

My UO, I appreciate that some believe that gay marriage is "wrong", but to impose punitive laws that segregate members of our society reeks of arrogance and selfishness.

ETA: added the reason why I quoted and wording.

This.  However, equality or not, there are just things a man is going to be able to do that I can't.  I'm all for women in the army or being firefighters but if you want true equality I think you need to be able to pass the same physical tests that a man does.  I can't open a jar of pickles let alone carry someone out of a burning building, so I'm pretty sure no one would choose to have me coming to the rescue.

I am the opposite of a feminist.  It's not that I think women aren't capable of doing the same things as men, I just think the smart ones don't want to. Wink

Grammar mistakes really bother me.  Especially when people misuse "then" and "than".  It drives me up the wall!
This. I also can't stand it when people say "I's". For example, my cousin said "I'd like to thank everyone for congratulating us on Anna's and I's engagement." WTH? That is just ridiculous. Along the same lines, it's annoying when people don't know when to use "me" or "I". I also hate raisins, 99% of candy, seafood, and pies and pastries.

    THIS!  Drives me crazy!

I hate chocolate, ice cream, coffee and alcohol.  I also couldn't care less what brand of clothing, purse or shoes I wear, what kind of car I drive or what type of phone I have.

I TOTALLY agree with every last word of this.
