3rd Trimester

Red Raspberry Leaf Tea Suggestions

I've ordered some to help prepare for labor (get that uterus nice and strong!), and I was wondering....

What is your favorite way to drink it? Iced? Hot? Sweetened? If sweetened, what do you like to sweeten with? Juice (I've heard apple is good in it), sugar, etc?

What's your favorite way to prepare it? I bought loose leaf tea instead of bags.

How much do you typically drink a day? A glass, a few, a pitcher, a gallon?

How would you describe the tea? I've heard some say it's sweet, almost no need to sweeten, others say it tastes like a "general" herbal tea. I know to not expect a raspberry flavor, since it's the leaves of the fruit!

And last, but not least, did it do what it said and strengthen your uterus to make pushes more effective?

TIA!

Re: Red Raspberry Leaf Tea Suggestions

  • I love RRLT!! It tastes like a black tea (even though its herbal). So if you take your black tea with cream & sugar then that is how I would advise doing it.

I drank four to five 8-oz coffee cups worth a day from 37 weeks onward.

I have tried it iced and I didn't care for it unless you sweeten it. A good way to do that with an iced drink is to create simple syrup. You do that by heating water to boiling and dissolving sugar in it. You do a cup of sugar to a cup of water. Yes, the syrup will be sweet! So that you can make a little go a long way. If you want to do iced tea in general that is the easiest way to do it.

I prefer it hot.I put honey and milk in it.

    Enjoy!

ETA: I started drinking it at 37 weeks and had Abby at 39 weeks & 1 day. I have never had contractions prior to this delivery so I have no idea if it made my uterus stronger or not. However, I will say that my labor was only 4 hours from the time I was admitted to the hospital until delivery. I did spend the majority of that day laboring at home though. How much RRLT had to do with it I don't know.

I only pushed for one hour, but I consider myself extremely lucky and this experience to be not usual. I did drink a lot of this tea though just because it tasted good so I don't know.

    Good luck!

  • I started finking it around 35 weeks. I drink at least a cup a day ususally 2. I make it extra strong (2 tea bags) in an oversized coffee cup. I add 2 teaspoons of sugar and a lemon wedge. I think it tastes yummy. I read some where that making it iced decreases the effects if not drank right away, so don't make it in mass and store in the fridge? Not sure how true that is. I have no idea how well it works as I'm still pregnant!

  • I drank it from 8 weeks on with my second. Hot with nothing. I think it tastes gross, but drink it anyway. I add a packet of truelemon powder to it and that helps. Second labor was 2.5 hours. But before you get too excited first labor with no rrl was only 4 hours. I've been drinking it since 11 weeks this time. We'll seee what happens.

  • I have only been drinking it for the past week or so, and I am already not a fan! I drink it hot with honey and sugar; I don't like tea at all, so I need it to taste sweet in order for me to be able to drink it. Right now I have only been drinking 1 cup a day, because it makes LO go CRAZY and I can't handle the constant kicking to my ribs! I have noticed that my contractions and BH contractions have felt stronger since drinking the tea (not sure if that's just coincidence).

I'm hoping it will help me go into labor on time and make pushing more effective. Here's hoping!

  • I like it either with honey or raw sugar.  I mix it with:

    Alfalfa

    Nettle Leaf

    Oatstraw

    Rose Hips

    and Spearmint.

For best results, steep for 4 hours.  An infusion, to drink during labor, should be steeped overnight in a canning jar.

  • I was a huge fan of regular black tea before pregnancy and gave it up because of the caffine so I've been missing my morning hot beverage. I started drinking the RLT this week (ordered in built from Amazon) and even though I normally don't like herbal teas, I think it tastes pretty good. I don't add anything. I've only been having 1 cup/day so far but I'm 32 weeks along. I guess I'll bump it up in a couple weeks. I'm a FTM so I can't reallly testify to how it works but I did read it up on it - there's no scientific evidence that it makes a difference (if any other Bumpies found a good study with actual data, please correct me! I'd love to see it.) but I figure it can't hurt, it might help, and in the meantime, I enjoy drinking it. I think kegels are more likely to make a difference in my body's ability to push, so I *try* to do those everyday as well.

  • I just drink mine plain hot, I started around 37 weeks and pretty much just have a cup by me all day whenever I'm home.  It just tastes like regular herbal tea to me, definitely NOT sweet, but I like it.  My DH's aunt who is a doula told me to drink as much as I can, I probably drink about 4-6 cups a day?
