eyebrow/lip wax

Have any of you been regularly getting these done? My eyebrows especially are in a really bad place right now, but I'm paranoid because I read something in one of the books (What to Expect, maybe?) that waxing on your face can cause big problems during pregnancy - I can't remember exactly but some kind of marks on yoru face that won't go away for a while. I have blonde hair and I am still not sure how much longer I can hold out..?

I had waxing done around 10 weeks - in What to Expect they said to make sure the esthetician knew you were pregnant because your skin might be more sensitive - it was totally fine for me!

I've heard of this only once from one person. I'im not too sure I buy it though. I'm going to ask my OB tomorrow and plan on getting it done saturday unless she says otherwise.

I never get my eyes or lip waxed anymore, I get them threaded... I have found it lasts longer (not as long now with being pregnant, but longer then waxing would leave it)

It takes a little bit longer than waxing (about 2 min per brown and lip) but I like the results better...

If you just google 'eyebrow threading' a bunch of images and sites come up...

I've been plucking my brows to keep up with them. The only thing I've heard (from other moms) is that your skin can be more sensitive when waxing. I'm not sure of any dangers, but I really don't know.

Thanks everyone. I looked it up more and it looks like what I was thinking of is called melasma. I think it can sometimes be brought on by waxing. I think I am going to take my chances though

I've been waxing since I got pregnant (and for some odd decade and a half before) and have not had any issues. However, brazilians hurt a heck of a lot more and my skin down there is a lot more sensitive. So far it's not enough to make me stop doing it, so fx it doesn't get any worse.

I get my lip and eyebrows threaded. I have super sensitive skin and threading irritates it way less than waxing. I haven't been since I found out I was pregnant, though...

This. I find I have to pluck weekly, because they are growing so fast right now!

My eyebrows are taking over my face! Going to get them done this weekend. If you are in NY and interested in threading, I know that there is a spa called Shobha (I think that's how you spell it) that has several locations and does threading.

I got both done a few weeks ago and it hurt really bad. But I didn't have any more reaction to the wax than I normally do. I would recommend popping a tylenol befor eyou go and you should be fine!

I wax mine once every couple of months (because I keep up with them for awhile after I wax) and will continue to do so.

Melasma is brought on by a combination of hormone imbalance and UV exposure. It is hyperpigmentation ( excess melanin production) in the skin. It is not going to be caused by waxing.

The concern with waxing is that during pregnancy your skin can be much more sensitive ( you cold burn more easily or get a rash) so just tell the cosmetologist you are pregnant and she can adjust the heat or wax formula.

I buy Sally Hansen pre-waxed strips and do it myself every 2 weeks without fail. Sometimes my skin gets a little irritated with a few red bumps, but I think its just dryness. Otherwise, I've never heard of anything like that. If I didn't do it I would have a full on mustache and Brooke Shields Eyebrows.

I think it would be totally fine, your skin may be more sensitive so the marks may hover longer but that's the only possibility of problem I can think of unless they were using some crazy wax. I know many women who refer to WTE as "What to Fear When You're Expecting," it's chock full of every ridiculous thing that could possibly go wrong, I'd take anything it says with a grain of salt.
