Sensitive Tooth :(

Hi Mommies to be! I was wondering if anyone else has had major tooth sensitivity? I'm almost 16 weeks & it started a few days ago.  It's just one tooth, when I drink something cold, rinse with minty mouth wash or breathe in through my mouth :( It's brutal.  I started brushing with sensodyne last night.  Any other suggestions??

Re: Sensitive Tooth :(

  • you are NOT along, I have noticed this too, it is on my right side of my mouth. I got some crest for sensitive teeth and it seems to help out a whole bunch! I was using orajel since it is not much that the dentist can do. Try some sensitive toothpaste, it saved me!! Good Luck, and I feel your pain!

  • I had a sensitive tooth a few weeks back.  I made sure I brushed it for a very long time and stayed away from sugar even more so than normal.  Just when I was considering that I may have to go to a dentist, it stopped hurting.  No particular suggestions, but I hope it works out for you.
  • I'm with you on that one too.I've had toothaches so bad that I was almost in tears.Tylenol doesn't do anything and I tried every home remedy in the book.Sensodyne used to be my life saver but even it stopped working. The only thing that I found that makes the pain go away is an ice pack to my face

  • Honestly - I'd go to the dentist. If it's an infection, it cause all sorts of problems with the baby, up to and including preterm labor. The sooner it gets taken care of, the better.
  • Do you have any gum recession?  I do on two certain teeth (despite being a lifelong flosser, sigh) and those particular ones have been acting up for my during my pregnancy.  I actually went to the dentist at 11 weeks for a routine and it was excruciating!  When she put that metal plaque scraper on one of the teeth I've been having trouble with I jumped about a foot in the air!  My midwife said Sensodyne toothpaste is safe, and I have found that helpful.

  • Thanks Bumpies! It's nice to see I'm not the only one but I feel your pain.  I started using Sensodyne 2 days ago & it is starting to help a bit so hopefully it'll continue that way.  I have also noticed it's sensitive a bit to sugar so I'm cutting back on that, not drinking things too cold & I'm using a straw to avoid contact with that particular tooth while drinking things.  I really hope its a temporary thing & will go away for all of us ASAP!

  • Glad the sensodyne is helping.  Just wanted to add to make sure that you're not using the whitening version since that can actually cause sensitivity.  Not sure why they even sell the stuff but I used to have terrible sensitivity and my dentist told me to stay away from all whitening types including sensodyne whitening.
  • Yeah my Dentist told me about the whitening toothpaste causing sensitivity so I stay away from those especially now.  Thanks :)
