2nd Trimester

3D ultrasounds

I really really want to get one but my husband thinks they are too expensive to be worth it.  Opinions?? Have any of you done it and absolutely loved or regreted spending the money??

  • I am going to do it next month. It's a little expensive... but I only get to enjoy my first pregnancy once!

  • I think they're worth it.
  • I think they're worth it ... but only because mine will be free. If I had to pay, I wouldn't do it.

  • I`m in the same boat.  I really want one but DH thinks they are too expensive.  I did talk to a friend of mine, she didn`t get one done and says she really regrets it.

  • I'm getting one, and paying for it. ;) I've heard from other women who had one that it was totally worth it and they recommend it since they loved it so much.

  • We got a $99 3D package from a place nearby.  It as worth it for the piece of mind (I've had 2 early losses and have an anterior placenta), but the baby isn't in a good position so we didn't get many good pictures.

  • My doctor's office does them . . . my mw makes sure she puts the order in for site that has the capability. For me, it really made the LO more real. I was able to see it's tiny face, nose, lips and chin. It was totally worth it to me, but I didn't have to go anyplace other than my caregiver.

I think it is totally worth it for $99 . . . I would suggest though to wait until you are in the 30 some weeks though if it is elective. At 20 weeks, my LO was still pretty skinny and the face was bony. The pics I have seen in the 3rd trimester look almost identical to what the baby looks like when he/she is born.

  • For my last two pregnancies I have opted to go to an outside u/s facility for my 20 week scan and since it was the anatomy scan our insurance paid for it...The 3/D photos are a neat experience, however, if you aren't far enough along the baby looks kind of skeletal, not like you would imagine...I always hear the later into your pregnancy the better the 3/D will look.  Maybe just ask the office ahead of time what they think.

  • we were a bit iffy on it because we'd heard they werent overly good for the baby's health. we talked to the midwife about it, and she said as long as its not a really long one (20 mins or less) there's nothing to worry about it. She also said not to wait too long because once the baby gets big its hard to get good pics.

We called the place around the corner is $150 for 20 mins, gives you pics and a CD. They also recommended coming in between 26 - 30 weeks for best pics. We're going to go for it!
