Babies on the Brain

OMG why am I always shocked at how lazy people are?!

It happens every time I get pregnant.  Someone on the Tri boards or the BMB talk about how great it is to have expectant mothers parking and how they always park there despite the fact that they have a completly complication free pregnancy and they are only 15 weeks.  Gah.  Get off your lazy ass and walk the few extra feet people!

Re: OMG why am I always shocked at how lazy people are?!

  • I'm with you! I just used one of those spots for the first time this pregnancy this weekend. My back has started killing me (not to mention some other joys of third tri) and I always felt guilty using them before. Plus, I can usually use the extra exercise. ;)

He's the single greatest thing I've done in my life and reminds me daily of how fun (and funny) life can be.  He's turned out pretty swell for having such a heartless and evil mother.
  • Ok balls that actually hurt my eyes trying to read that!  lol  Yeah I know, being a 3rd timer doens't make me a pro, but lazy is lazy no matter what.

I'm trying to be much more active this pregnancy becuase I'd like for #3 to just fall out.  Heck I walked a ton during my last pregnancy and my labor was a lot easier!

Im with you. Equally as much, people who drive up and down the parking lot rows looking for a "sweet spot". If i find one, great. Otherwise, Im parking in the first spot I see nearish to the front. I don't get it. When you get inside the store, your walking around anyway!

This is all null and void when its -10 degrees or raining like a hurricain.

I stay home on days like that.  lol  I normally park as close to a cart corral as I can (which is never near the front it seems) because when I have two kids with me, I can't be running all over the parking lot to put that thing away while my kiddos are sitting in the car.  There is even a  parking spot at a grocery store that is for people with kids and I never use it because the damn cart corral is like 45 feet away.  Sorry but that's too far to walk away from my car with my babies in it.

yes, exactly.  I would love a great spot, but if not I'm just taking the first open one I see.

Same thing with people who will drive around a parking lot for 5 minutes trying to find the closest spot. Or, you could have just parked in the back, walked to the store and been in there shopping already!

I had to laugh at this exact scenario last Christmas.  DH, DS and I went shopping and people were bypassing spots near the driveway because they're "far" from the store entrance.  We parked, pulled out DS, stroller, diaper bag and walked.  As we entered the store we walked past people we had seen come in, still circling for a spot.  Lay-zee.

  • I never used them with O.  I always used them with J if there was nohing closer.  I was so sick and so miserable any bit of help was desperately needed.

  • I used an expectant mother spot at the grocery store once and felt really... lazy. I haven't done it again.

My opinion on the things - if a store has them, cool. If not I won't get all bent out of shape over it. The world doesn't need to bend over backwards for me just because I'm pregnant. Now New Mother parking? Totally a good idea. I always feel for the mom trying to wrangle two kids and a cart full of bags. She could use the closer spot much more than I could.

  • I remember using them at BRU while pregnant with the boys but I'm not sure when. I know it was around 20w. I prefer the new mother parking because lugging kids and an infant carrier is way worse then walking while KU.

  • I only used the expectant mother spot when I was on modified bed rest and supposed to be off my feet as long as possible (we were going to a movie at the mall)

last week I got to Kaiser for my eye appt.   There was one big ass truck in the expectant mother spots (the other 6 spots were empty).     A big burly guy with a beard came out, got in the truck and drove off.   Yeah, I don't think he was pregnant.

  • At my MFM office where I go for my ultrasounds, almost all the parking on that floor of the garage is for expectant mothers.  I still feel funny parking in them.

I actually prefered the "new mother" parking spaces. (they have new and expectant mothers spots at my local grocery)

I found it much harder to carry a baby/carrier/diaper bag, than just my big pregnant self.

    This.

And I only don't like expectant at stores, because the vast majority of those women are going to walk into the store and walk around the store. And women are making a choice to go to the store (they could online shop).

Now for places like doctor's offices or hospitals, I fully support expectant mother parking because a woman who is on bed rest or just plain uncomfortable may have to come to those places and it is nice to make it a bit easier for them.

  • I would've felt weird parking in the expectant mothers' spot the day I delivered (at 41 weeks 6 days).  I was about to go through the most physically challenging experience of my life; I would've been screwed had I not been able to walk a few extra feet to get to the mall.

  • I don't see them often. I never used them with G but occasionally with A.

I was pissed the night my water broke and all the expentant mother spots were taken at the hospital - I would have appreciated a few less steps with the lovely sensation of niagara falls gushing out.

  • I think I used one one time. And it was towards the end of my pregnancy, and the lot was basically full.

People use them all the time though and they aren't even pregnant (or showing LOL) so, meh.

I actually prefer the walk to the door.
