D.C. Area Babies

*Share LO Gift Recommendations/Ideas Here*

The post below got me thinking - it's fun to hear about what everyone's LO is "obsessed" with so the rest of us can get good birthday/holiday gift ideas.  I know what I'm getting my kids for Christmas, but my relatives always want a list and I'm sometimes at a loss!

So, if anyone is looking for ideas for kids my kids' ages, here are some recent obsessions of theirs:

DD #1 - 4 1/2 years old (will be 5 in February)

  1. Books books books - Pinkalicious, Tea with the Queen, Where the Wild Things Are
  2. Puzzles
  3. Any board game for her age
  4. "Workbooks" or flashcards for preK or K ages - the ones where you trace letters and numbers and do simple counting activities, like these:  https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3235665 https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3337013
  5. Disney princess dolls or really anything with Disney princesses on them (because really, you can buy just about anything with princesses on them - books, puzzles, board games, plates, spoons, cups, etc)
  6. DVDs:  Robin Hood (the cartoon one, where Robin Hood is a fox), Mary Poppins, Nemo, Tinkerbell, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Sleeping Beauty, Jungle Book, Lion King
  7. anything to do with ballerinas
  8. bubble bath
  9. Leapster Explorer - she has two games for it, Mr. Pencil and - of course - Disney Princess adventure or something like that.  This is her most prized obsesssion I think:  https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4068861

  2. board books of any kind
  3. flashlights
  4. really any kind of teething toy

My nine year old niece:

  1. Anything to do with HORSES.

I actually need some ideas for him - I'm a little bit at a loss for toys/activities for some reason!!!  Anyone want to suggest more stuff for a one year old?  The girls were obsessed with Little People when they were one, but DS is not really...

Some ideas for the upcoming holiday season I'm batting around are digital camera for the almost 5 year old (one of the cheap-o ones), art supplies for the almost 3 year old, dresses for both girls and ??? for DS.

Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.

Re: *Share LO Gift Recommendations/Ideas Here*

  • Huh - none of the bullet points I put in my post showed up, and some of the breaks didn't show up.  Sorry it looks kind of jumbled.  ETA:  OK, used the numbers and it's a little better.
Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.
  • Loading the player...
  • Artslvr, some ideas for your son.  Blocks, legos, drums (DS loves banging on it), ball pit, Trucks (The Tonka Chuck ones look cute).  I'm sort of running into the problem that we have a lot of 1 year old toys and I am trying to figure out what else to get.
  • Current Obsessions

DD 2.5 years old (will be 3 in March)

    1. Dress up, animal, princess, fairy, my clothes - she loves it all.
    2. Books - Fancy Nancy, Wild About Books, Corduroy, Shel Silverstein, anything with ponies, really, we haven't found a book she does not love.
    3. Ponies. It's her latest obsession.
    4. Puzzles, we're working on the 24 piece ones now.  She's mastered all of the wood puzzles.
    5. Nail Polish, lip gloss and anything girly.  I don't wear make-up, she is innately girly
    6. Dancing shoes, tutus, anything that makes her feel like a dancer
    7. Girls singing - no boys allowed in her musical tastes.
    8. Hair stuff, she's girly.
    9. Art supplies, she loves to paint and color.  Play Dough too.  Glitter
    10. Her own sized real kitchen equipment.  She helps me cook every day.  I have plastic bowls and smaller whisks and smaller wooden spoons so she can scramble the eggs and mix things.  She also is in charge of making the salad and loves the salad spinner.
    11. Her own sized cleaning supplies.  Brooms, rakes, etc.
    12. Kid sized furniture, she loves her little table and chairs.  We're refinishing a wooden rocker for her for Christmas.
    13. Balls and bubbles.
    14. She is just getting into dolls, she likes to put them in their doll furniture, undress and diaper them and be their mommy.
    15. Rocking horse (see the pony comment above).
    16. Shopping cart and play kitchen.  Almost as much fun as the real one.
    17. Sandbox, this is really a year round hit on the patio.  Any day warm enough and she is out there digging.
    18. Swing, we use this 3 seasons of the year.
    19.  Cars and trucks (somewhat, she is just getting into them).
    20. Blocks

DS 9 months (Will be 1 in January)

    1. Blocks, there is no greater joy than knocking them down
    2. Anything he can bang, drums, the Fisher Price Piano, his xylophone
    3. Trucks, he likes to push them
    4. Balls
    5. Anything that he can press buttons and it will do something.  Current hits include baby cell phone, laugh and learn puppy (I hate that thing), Leap Frog Magnetic Farm
    6. Anything he can chew on.
    7. Push toys, he uses the shopping cart, fisher price lion, an old school playskool one.
    8. Toy kitchen, he loves opening the doors and taking things out
    9. He is just getting into books, right now we read a lot of ones about animals.
    10. Sandbox
    11. Bath toys, especially ones that splash well and pour

    Our gift ideas so far:

DD: rocking chair, party dress, a my little pony (sans accessories since DS gets into everything), we have a plastic kitchen, but hope to build her a wooden one for Christmas with a little store to go next to it, I want to get her a cash register - I loved the Fisher Price one as a kid, galoshes and umbrella, more puzzles and books

DS: Chuck the Truck, stacking cups, (clearly I haven't put much thought into his).

  • Artslvr, DS absolutely adored this mower at 12 months old, and he still regularly uses it now.  It's a popping mower though, so if you don't want to put up with the noise, you may want to go with a bubble mower instead.  Either way, you'll probably want to end up making them outside toys.  DS liked to run circles around the house with his, and it got really loud and really dangerous around these parts.
