Usually from vistaprint but I have printed them myself and also bought them from other places (Hallmark, Target, dollar store) and just filled in the blanks. I would never ever do evites though.
I got mine at tinyprints.com, Storybook invite. They were absolutely perfect and worth every penny. Almost everyone that recieved an invite said they were beautiful.
I actually ordered the invitations for my shower from party city. I got the personalized ones. I know I shouldn't of had to get my own invites but I fell in LOVE with a specific invite. I didn't think it was right to ask my hosts to buy invites that were gonna be a little pricey when they could buy some that weren't that would have been just as cute. I had a girl and had these Garden something invites. They had little bees, lady bugs, and flowers on them. It matched my theme perfect because we did a "spring" theme. Most of my DD's nursery stuff is lady bugs. That's why I fell in love with the invites.
I love the variety of the baby shower invites at Baby Cachet's store. They also have the service where they can send out the cards for you, if you're strapped for time (like me!). Good luck!
Re: if you are throwing a shower, what are best places to order invites?
I got my sisters on Storkie.com
They have really cute stuff.

My mom got my invites from Shutterfly. She had some coupons & was able to get 30 invites for $12.
For SIL's shower I bought an invite kit & had them printed at a local print shop. The kit was $10 & the printing was $3 for 50 invites.
