Babies on the Brain

Could I be pregnant?

When trying to get PG with our first son, I had a weird period and negative HPT the month before I "got PG". The following month no period and BFP! DS EDD was moved up a week from my initial LMP (the weird one). He was born 3 weeks prior to his due date and was 7lb3oz and perfect.

We are TTC and I know when I ovulated and we had sex 2 days before and the day of. I started bleeding late Sat. night and all day yesterday and only half a day today and then nothing at all. I wasn't due for AF until last night. My normal cycle is at least 4 days and sometimes lasting 5-6 with light spotting the last day or two. Could I be pregnant now? I took a HPT on Friday, but it was neg. I wonder if DS was right on time and I was PG with him when I had the weird period. My mom had her period for 3-4 months when PG with me and my brothers. Am I crazy? I've been very hormonal had tender boobs plus bloating. I normally don't have any symptoms with AF.

  • Well first, you absolutely can't have your period while pregnant.  Bleeding, yes but your period, no.  How do you know when you ovulated?  I would say that 2.5 days of total bleeding so close to when you expected your period is, in fact your period.

  • Test once a week until AF or 60 days. Or a Positive.

  • Yes and there are also answers on Google as well, but I thought I'd get some opinions from people on here. It is possible to have a period while pregnant and 30% of pregnancies the mom's experience spotting. I just wanted to see if anyone here has had a similar experience. It isn't something that is common and most "spotting" is very light.

I just need to talk to someone about this too. DH and I don't tell people, so I don't have anyone to talk to. Just needed to get this off my chest.

PS I'm sorry, I'm not normally snarky like this, but as I said before, I'm pretty hormonal.

  • 1. That was snarky?

    2. Why are you supposedly hormonal?

    3. What on earth does hormones have to do with it?

    4. No really, it isn't a period. Yes people bleed. I bleed every single time I'm pregnant. In a monthly pattern even. Still not a period.

Actually no, you cannot have a period while pregnant. You can, however, have break through bleeding.

No. It's not a period. It's spotting or bleeding for some reason, but it's not a period.

I'm sorry but this is false.  You can bleed but it can not be your period, technically.  Your period is the shedding of your uterine lining.  When pregnant your uterus is pretty much busy with other things.

  • Ok, I know they HAVE to teach what a period is at least in nursing school.

    Right?

I think it's funny that a nurse said this.

I also think it's funny that a nurse is looking on google.

  • First of all, I haven't googled it, I was trying to say that there are answers to everything on google, yet we still come to the bump with our questions. And, I apologize, my wording is wrong. Period/bleeding is the same thing in my mind even though I know that different things happen.

I'm sorry that I even posted.

And, by hormonal I'm extra sensitive as well as easily upset, normally I have tough skin.

  • I'm going to hope for MUD/she's not a nurse IRL. At least I hope she's not.  I'd never want to be in someone's care who knew that little about their own body.

Oh! I bled for 90 days after I had Jack. Longest period ever.
