My little guy was born on Thursday night after a quick 8 hrs of labor and delivery. He was immediately taken to the nursery because he had low blood sugar. Later we were told he was being moved to NICU and the neonatologist came in to tell us that she thought he had Down Syndrome. We were shocked but hoped she was wrong. They sent him for some chromosomal testing and it came back positive.
The last few days have been an emotional rollercoaster. I was released on Saturday and leaving my baby behind when I went home was heartbreaking. We are now juggling home and trips to the NICU. He was having trouble regulating his sugars, he had some jaundice and he had issues with his O2 saturation. Poor guy had an IV in his head, a tube down his nose to feed, the bili lights and a nasal cannula to help push air into his lungs to dry them out.
As of today, he is off all of those things except he still has his feeding tube. He is breastfeeding like a champ which we are super grateful for since DS babies have issues feeding. He also does not have some of the major health issues often associated with DS. His heart looks good, tummy/intestines are fine etc. He is currently having a scan on his kidneys/bladder because they noticed his bladder is enlarged. Anyway, we are dealing with things day by day.
We love our little guy so much and are just praying that he comes home soon. Prayers are so appreciated!

Re: Burke is here but with some sad news...
Wow. Congrats on the little guy.. He looks like a sweetheart
I hope everything turns out okay and you get to bring him home soon!
Congrats on a quick and successful L&D! He looks beautiful!
Hopefully everything comes back fine.
Oliviosis, that picture is absolutely beautiful. Congratulations on your little one - I hope he returns to good health soon, and I know you are a great mom
Good luck to you both! Like PP said, I'm sure this is a lot to process. There is also a special needs board here on the bump, I believe there are some Downs Syndrome mommies over there who may be able to offer some added support when you need it
