2nd Trimester

Some spotting...

I'm 22 weeks today and last night I noticed some minor reddish brown spotting.  It's still there this morning except now it's more of a yellowish brown. It's not a lot at all though.  I'm not having any cramping or pains either.  Husband thinks I have a cut on the outside but couldn't tell for certain.  We did have sex yesterday so I'm wondering if that caused it. Do you think I should wait this out or call the doctor?  The difficult thing is that I haven't felt any movement yet (at least for certain) probably because of my anterior placenta so that is very frustrating since if he would kick I'd know he was ok.

Re: Some spotting...

  • Spotting is very common after sex. More than likely your dr office will tell you to watch it for another day and then let them know. But if you need piece of mind, definately don't be afraid to request an appt. Especially since it's not bright red my opinion would be you've just irritated a little bit of old blood.

  • I agree with pp.  Spotting is common after sex.  If you are worried, call your doctor.  Maybe they can do a quick check with a doppler.

  • Most doctors will tell you to wait it out as long as there is not intense cramping and are not bleeding intensely. I'm with PP that it's probably because of the sex.

  • I just read that as your pg progresses, you are more likely to spot after sex bc your cervix is becoming more and more sensitive.

  • Do what you feel is right. However, I agree with the other posters.  The reason I believe is because of the increased blood flow to our areas. Also, I know I had some brownish spotting at 19 weeks and my doc said everything looked good I just popped a vessel in my cervix.  Apparently that can happen and it freaks us out. Hope you feel better about it!

  • Thanks for your help.  I decided to wait it out and am only seeing a little bit today.  If it continues or gets worse though I will call the doctor.
