Baby Names

Evelina

I saw this name and took it from this book.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evelina

I'm not sure if it would be pronounced Eve-leena or Eva-leena or if both are ok.  I kind of like Eva-leena and mainly because I really like the name Lena.

Would you keep the original spelling if you wanted to pronounce it Eva-leena?

Or would you change it to something like "Evalena"?

Just looking for opinions, I'm not even pg.

Re: Evelina

  • imageContributeimageAdd to ListEVELINA GENDER: FeminineUSAGE: EnglishItalianSwedishMeaning & HistoryLatinate form of AVELINE. It was revived by the author Fanny Burney for the heroine of her first novel 'Evelina' (1778). It is often regarded as a variant of the related name Evelyn.I would pronounce it (EV-i-leen-ah ) because it reminds me so much of Evelyn. Pretty name.

  • I knew an Evalina in High School, she pronounced it Ev-uh-lina.
  • I would pronounce the second e like "eh" or "uh." The whole name sounds a little fairy-tale-ish to me, but that might be your style.

  • I think the traditional spelling still looks like it'd be pronounced "-lena" to me. I say don't change the spelling.

Pretty name, by the way. :)

This name looks like Evil-lena to me.  I just wouldn't want to name my child Evil.
