Baby crawling on wood?

I only let ds crawl in the living room where we have a huge cushy area rug. Sometimes he makes it to the wood and will fall over and I cringe. He is a little bitter about not getting to crawl in the other rooms,do I need to get over it and let his little noggin hit the ground?

  • Get him a helmet and some knee pads!

Just kidding. I'm probably going to have to get over the same thing soon, since we only have area rugs, too, but I can't keep him on one rug forever. :(

  • I'm a bad mom and let LO crawl on the hardwoord and linoleum. She has to figure out how to do it eventually. I don't let her if she's tired and extra clumsy though. Same with standing and she pulls herslef up on everything so I have to be very careful with that. The tile was a little too hard for her so we're waiting a little longer on that.
  • Definately have to get over it.  Bumps and bruises are part of life.  I have always made sure to cheer/clap my hands every time LO falls or bumps his head (way less tears this way).  Yes of course I am comforting and sympathetic if it is truly a bad bump/fall.
  • P isn't crawling yet, but he tries so hard!  He is actually better on the wood floor. On the rugs he just rolls and scootches, but I think he gets more traction on the wood- he'll push up and army crawl.  I just watch him extra close and usually only let him on the wood if i'm on the floor with him. Otherwise he's on a mat, on top of a rug so he can bump the head without worry!

  • Relax. He's going to fall on something non-cushy. It will be worse for you than for him more than likely.

  • He actually doesn't cry when he wipes out, even when he wipes out from a standing position (he is pulling to stand already). I should be used to it since I have three year old bruiser of a boy. It's hard not to think about his soft little head. I LEt him crawl around our room for the first time today and he was soooo stoked.

  • You need to do whatever you think is best for your child.

I personally plan to let DD crawl on the wood as much as she pleases, but our whole house is hardwood except for some area rugs. She literally just started crawling on her hands and knees yesterday, so she has only been on the rugs thus far. She doesn't crawl well enough to even stay on her knees on a hard surface yet, she slips.

  • We only have hard wood.  Ace crawls on that with no issue.  He's faceplanted a few times but been fine.
