Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Jacob still eats some Gerber tubs, is that totally weird or normal?

Just wondering when your LO was completely off the baby food, Jacob is 12 1/2 months and eats some of the food DH and I eat but a lot of his food still comes from Gerber.  Is that totally off from what the norm is?

Re: Jacob still eats some Gerber tubs, is that totally weird or normal?

  • DS got totally picky when he started cutting molars and stopped eating almost all of his favorite/normal/every-day foods.... so we tried a jar of Gerber 3rd foods and he ate it up.

We now keep a couple jars of food and some of those food pouches in the cupboard for the teething days he won't eat otherwise.

  • my DS is almost 16 months and eats regular adult steel cut oatmeal with a puch of happy baby organic baby food almost every morning mixed in.  He uses his own spoon, but he likes it and it is better than processed Quaker with sugar, etc IMO...

So, I don't think it is bad to continue to offer some pureed foods, but I do think it is important for them to begin self eating with their fingers, and then with a spoon and fork.

  • I don't think it's bad for them to have purees at this age, but they should be getting a majority of finger foods. My DD has been on finger foods since 9 months because she completely refused purees.
  • Tegan ate pur?ed fruit mixed with baby oatmeal for breakfast, until she was about 18 months old. She'd probably still eat it but I haven't offered it to her in awhile. She also still eats some fruit/veggie pouches as a snack, which makes me happy since she won't touch a whole veggie. I think, as long as he's eating some finger foods every day, that there's nothing wrong with continuing with purees until he starts to refuse them.

  • I keep veggie pur?es around to add to DS's smoothies.  I don't know if he would eat them with a spoon anymore, but I don't think it would be a problem as long as he is eating finger food also.

  • My 16 month old loves pureed vegetables (he will eat regular veggies as well) but the pureed ones are very convenient when we are on the go-so I still buy them.
  • Puree pouches are the only way I can get vegetables into my kid. He loves them and I have absolutely no problem giving them to him and will continue to do so until he's in preschool probably. The lunches at daycare are light on veggies, so I send a pouch or two to supplement. He wont eat purees unless they're in a pouch that he can feed himself.

  • Even though DD has refused purees since about 9 month, I still keep the pouches on hand for days when she's teething or sick. She'll gobble them up then.

  • We still do the pouches when we are out and about.  DD loves them.
