2nd Trimester

skin (face)

Is all jacked up. My chin is breaking out but my forehead is so dry when I touch it, skin flakes off (I live in FL, so it's not cold). I don't know what to do with it. I have been washing with mild cleanser (Cetaphil) then using the Clinique dramatically different moisturizing lotion + moisture surge on the dry areas.

Any suggestions?

Re: skin (face)

  • I feel you. I look like a freaking lizard because of the breakouts on my forehead and the scaly eczema on other parts of my face. I gently exfoliate once a day, moisturize the driest areas once a day, and use a mild toner on the breakouts if they get really bad. I stopped using cover-up since it seemed to aggravate everything. All this seems to help a little bit, but I am resigned to reptile chic for the next few months since it never gets better past a certain (still very visible) point.

  • Same issues here! I don't understand how my skin (all over!) can be dry and itchy but oily all within inches of itself.  WTF body?

I found that washing with just water and washcloth before bed helps my face.  It gently scrubs off the dead crap, and cleans off the oily areas.  Then I'll take a cotton swap with a little bit of rubbing alcohol and wipe off the zitty parts. I remember being told once that zits are more because of bacteria than oily skin, so I figured the rubbing alcohol will kill the bacteria.  I think it's working. Well, if anything, it's making the oily spots drier.

Good luck... you're so not alone.  I think it's one of those things that we notice a little more than everyone else does. I remember my sister complaining about her complextion while pg... but didn't really notice, other than she had a few extra zits like she would once a month anyways.

  • If you can find a face wash with Calamine in it, maybe give that a try.  It has worked wonders for me!  I got mine from LUSH (www.lushusa.com) - if you live near a big-ish city you probably have one.  They will cut you a small piece to try (or maybe even give you a sample!).  I think the one they carry is called Fresh Farmacy.    I've always had bad skin, but I've found that the calamine in particular is really soothing for my face during my pregnancy.

  • I feel you. My forehead is super oily and my chin is so dry my skin is flaking off. Washing with Cetaphil helped a little bit but the only thing that keeps my chin from splitting is putting vaseline on it overnight.

  • I really like Johnson & Johnson Purpose cleanser.  It's very gentle!
