Babies on the Brain

Where are the girls with psoriasis on their scalp? or just dry scalp?

My head feels like it is on fire.  Do you use anything OTC to relieve the itching?  I found a ton on amazon, but if I can get it in Target on lunch, it would help.  I need it yesterday.

I'm looking for topical stuff, not shampoo. Like oil stuff.  Something you have used that works

  • I always have a really dry scalp, I started putting tea tree oil in my shampoo and it really helps.

  • The only thing that has helped me was something that I got from my derm.  But normally when I'm pregnant it is a lot better so I haven't used it in forever.  You probably can get some stuff at Target too.  DH had some OTC stuff that he got forever ago, not sure what it was though.  I do know that it smelled horrible, so you might want to only use it at home.  Wish I had a name for you. :(
  • I used castille soap with tea tree oil and coconut oil yesterday and it worked wonders.

I've still got flakeage but the horrendous itching has subsided... for now anyways.

  • Oh!  Coconut oil!  I've heard great things about that.  I got some for Avery since she's dairy free right now and apparently people use it a lot for dry skin.  I should totally try it!

I usually get dermasmoothe from the derm, but they won't renew over the phone.  That stuff is amazing.

  • Health food store or perhaps a drug store but I found it at the health food store.

I've tried a couple tea tree shampoos and conditioners but it hasn't really helped.  When it gets really bad I've been rubbing cortizone cream on my scalp before bed.  I'm thisclose to going to a derm because I just cannot stand it anymore.  This all just popped up over the summer and at first I thought it would be a short-lived post pregnancy thing, but now not so much.  So I'm open to any suggestions too!

Walmart has it their vitamin/healthfood section.  It was around $10, but it's probably cheaper in the US.   You can also find it at health food stores, but it is usually more expensive.

The great thing about tea tree oil is that a little goes a long way.  I use my tea tree oil all the time and I still have most of the bottle.

Just put 10-15 drops in your shampoo bottle and mix it up, or just mix with your shampoo in your hand in the shower (2 or 3 drops).  It's also great for dry skin, 2-4 drops in your bath water.

  • I am stalking this post because my head has been so itchy lately.  It is either dry scalp or Lyssapee posting about lice that has caused a hysterical lice case (kind of like a hysterical pregnancy in dogs.  LOL)  In fact, I was so paranoid I made dh and my mom look at my head.

So since I don't have lice,  I have to find something that helps my dry skin.
