Hey there -
I'm 8 weeks tomorrow, and for the past two days I've been having purple/maroonish looking discharge when I wipe after peeing. There's no 'bleeding' per se and it's certainly not heavy and the cramps I've been having are the same as I've been having since we found out we were expecting.
It is never a lot, from a rice kernel size amount to maybe penny sized amount. No other symptoms to speak of.
Doc sent my for an emerg ultrasound today, technician wouldn't say a word or show me anything on the screen. Hoping to get the results tomorrow. He also took blood to check my hormone levels.
Was wondering if anyone else had experienced this as I can't find much out there about it. Have our fingers crossed it's nothing serious but I can't help but feel the worst...
Thanks for your replies ![]()
Re: Purple-ish discharge at 8 weeks
My goodness, u/s tech didnt say a word? I would not like that, it just seems rude. Even if they cannot tell or dont have answers, a little comfort would be nice!
I know this light brown/marroon spotting can mean many things, or nothing. So I dont have much advise. But I will say at 6.5 weeks I also experienced this, and found out that I had twins, one being a blighted ovum. So the bleeding was the embryo absorbing into my body. But the dr also informed me some women experience the same type of bleeding for NO good reason and experience a perfectly healthy pregnancy.
Try not to worry too much, and I hope the results come back fast, waiting is the worst!
I had spotting or brownish red discharge between 7 and 10 weeks off and on. when it first started it was accompanied by cramping but then that slowed down. Now I have no spotting to speak of. I did get an emergency u/s when it started and all was well. 2 wks later at my first appt we took a quick peek again and all was well. My next scan is the NT on 11/2.
As said before it could be nothing. Hang in there. It's probably too late to call your doc office tonight but I would be on that phone in the morning first thing!
I have this too! Yesterday and today. It's not enough to stain my underwear, but it's there when I wipe. I asked nurse and she said without any other symptoms, I shouldn't be concerned. My first pre-natal appt is scheduled for the am, so I'll respond again when (good or bad) when I get home.
Let me know if you find anything else out! I am interested to know.
Thanks ladies, appreciate the comforting words
I will let you know if I find out anything today - annarach please keep us posted too - will be sending good vibes your way today.
I had asked the tech if I could see the image of the baby but she said the pregnancy is too small at this stage to really see anything but maybe next time - that gives me some hope that all is well...
Nerve-wracking thing, this baby-growing business... I'm really glad the doc I got at the walk-in was so gung-ho to make sure everything was ok - my GP has been less than supportive and I haven't heard from my OB for my first appt yet.

Hey all -
So I saw the doc today and he said that there is no heart beat on the baby, things should take their course in the next couple of days and if not I will have to go in for a procedure. So, a missed miscarriage it seems...
I am heartbroken, DH and I were so pumped for our little first anniversary bebe...
