XP: Any moms with LOs on Nutramigen or who have tried it?

-->
The pedi suggested us to try Nutramigen to see if it will help with LO's eczema.  It's a shot in the dark, but we may as well try, especially since DH has lactose intolerance.  The doctor told me that it tastes really bad so LO may not like it.  It definitely smells worse than the formula we were using (similac sensitive).  I just tried to give LO his first bottle of the Nutramigen and after about 1.5 oz. he spit out the bottle and refused to eat anymore.  I'm not sure if it's because he doesn't like the taste or if he's just not hungry (which happens once in awhile).  Did your LOs have any issues with the taste?  Did they have to get used to it?  I'm not sure how long I should try before I give up on it and go back to the Similac.

  • The doctor didn't say that it would taste differently but that we would smell the difference when she pooped since this formula is completely broken down.  DD ate the formula but we saw no changes after a week so we went back to Similac Sensitive.

    My nephew had a very bad case of eczema as a baby.  All over his face and arms.  The doctor prescribed a topical cream that we applied twice to three times a day.  In between we used Mustela; the hydrating stick and Aquaphor.

  • My DS has been on it since 6 weeks old. He took to it very well. Our pedi said it would take roughly 10 days for the old formula to be out of his system and the Nutramigen to fuly "take effect." If LO will take it, I'd try gor 2 weeks to see if you see a difference.

  • We used it with DS1 and we are using it with DD.

    For us, (both times....) it has been a miracle. It helped clear up eczema, helped with reflux and with spit up  issues.

    Both of my kids were put on it before 8 weeks and we had no issues getting them to eat it.

    I would keep trying!

  • We've got one of our DD's on it. Somehow she was fine with dairy and whatnot in EBM, but when we weaned and went to formula she was having huge issues. She would take 100% formula fine (regular similac and similac sensitive) but when we tried to go to 100% Nutramigen she flipped her lid. We started out with 25% Nutr. and 75% regular and have only gotten up to about 40% Nutr. Any more and she refuses the bottle. Thankfully, this mixture works well for her and has reduced the issues she was having on 100% regular.

  • We had DD on it for about a month or so for reflux. I hated everything about it. The smell, the cost. Blech. Also, it helped her reflux a little bit, but not much.

    We give her Baby's Only Organic Lactose-Free, and we love everything about it.

  • My LO had a lot of skin issues that cleared up when we put him on Alimentum (the Similac version of Nutramigen) but it did take a couple of weeks.  I would definitely give it two weeks and if you see improvement and LO is eating enough, then try to stay on it a little longer.

    As for the taste, the Similac Feeding Expert told me that it wasn't that LO didn't like the taste, it was that it was different and it would take some time to get used to it.  He was only 10 weeks old at the time.  After a day or two he was sucking it down like usual.  He's 16 weeks now and is doing great on it.  It's very expensive but worth every penny if you ask me!
