Yes it is better but you don't HAVE to do it. It is your choice. If you are at all on the fence do some research and give it a try. You can always switch to formula if you find it is not for you but once you let your milk dry up you can't change your mind to switch from formula.

It is in-arguably better to BreastFeed (for lots of reasons--baby's health, weight loss, mom's health) in most cases.
But babies can and do manage just fine w/ formula.
But BFing is work (well, being a new mom is work regardless , it can be challenging, and you don't *have* to do it. You, not your mom or your MIL, have to make this choice.
Not exactly like you asked, but if you did, I wold recommend you try. Like a PPer said, if you don't try, it's hard to go back to BFing. If you do try, well, you're not making a huge, lifelong commitment. You're deciding to 'try' and if that means at 1 week, 1 month, 17 and a half days and 3 hours, whenever, you decide that it doesn't work for you, you can change your mind. Heck, if at 2 weeks you decide to BF and supplement w/ formula, you have that option too.
I'd try to gt info from your OB--many are knowledgeable on the subject (although not all) and do some reading (which is hard, I know. A lot of what is out there is...militant?)
Breastfeeding IS better for so many reasons - nutrion, attachment, mom's health, etc. Still, it is your choice, and many kiddos do fine with formula.
Looks like you're still early in your pregnancy. I would try to avoid making a hard and fast decision at this point, and give yourself time to research and think about what will work best for you.
ANY breastfeeding is better than none. Even if you end up thinking that you'd prefer to use formula at some point, I strongly recommend breastfeeding at least some. This blog post explains the benefits of breastfeeding for a day/a few months/longer, etc. https://www.drmomma.org/2009/12/if-you-nurse-your-baby.html

Yes, it is better. Consider why most formula companies advertise that their formula is the closest to breastmilk.... even the formula companies know that BM is better.
If you do end up formula feeding. It's okay. I was a formula fed better -- but not becuase my mother did not try to BF me. It just did not work out for her.
