My son is Jackson Elliot. Elliot is a family name. I like how Jackson is kind of a modern twist on Jack, which is an old-ish, but classic name. It is NOT that popular in my state. I was looking for something similar, a classic name that has a strong nickname associated with it for with baby boy #2 but I am coming up empty.
I don't mind the presidential trend of Jackson, Theodore, Harrison, etc. I think it is cute and not too overtly matchy. I also like last names as first names, so that trend doesn't phase me either.
Theodore is a family name and the name of both of our grandfathers (one of whom died last week). Just not sure if I am fully on board with such a stuffy name. The full name Theodore just does not have a nice ring to it IMO, but we would likely call him Ted/Teddy/Theo or the like anyway. Last name begins with an R so he could be TR also.
The "C" initial is for my great grandmother... not 100% necessary, but nice if it works out. "H" is for my grandather.
Feel free to suggest something not on the list, or a different combination as well.
Theodore Jacob
Theodore Charles (is this way too old manish?)
Cooper Theodore (I know, totally not like the others, but we like it...)
Cooper Jacob
Harrison Theodore
(Yes this is an AE of sorts... I don't want to discuss names with my friends IRL and I have a bunch who lurk on here.. hopefully they won't open this and see my son's name, lol :-))
Re: Need help, opinions, suggestions on boys names
I LOVE Theodore! So many cute nickname options too! My fav is Theodore Charles....not old manish at all....classic. Cooper seems like odd man out and while I think it is cute, it just doesn't "go" with the rest. Just throwing another C name out there.....but what about Calvin?
I really like Theodore and it sounds almost perfect for you--but honestly, if you don't like it as a full name, I wouldn't use it. But I would keep it on the table if I were you. It could grow on you.
I'm not a big fan of Cooper or Harrison. As I was reading your post, the names William (Will or Liam) and Oliver (Ollie) came to mind. Would either of those suit your taste?
Calvin is totally NMS... makes me think of Calvin and Hobbes, lol. Cooper is the odd man out, for sure. It is cute, goes with Jackson, just not with the other choices.
I do think Theodore will grow on me, especially since it was the name of both of our grandfathers. I don't hate... it just seems a little dorky. I am a big proponent of not naming a kid something with no intention of calling him that.. like naming him Theodore and only calling him Teddy, for example... but I may end up doing it here.
I really like William, nn Liam... DH is not a huge fan. Maybe I will try to put that back on the table. Oliver is super cute, but there is no way DH would ever go for that.
Love the name Cooper!
um another last name turned first name I like is Porter
i heard it in a movie.. and it's nice I think
Not a huge fan of Porter. It makes me think of someone who is portly.
From your like I like Theodore Charles best. But I love Theodore and don't think it is dorky. DS1 is Theodore C LN.
However I don't think Theodore and Jackson go together, at least I wouldn't pick Jackson as a sibling name for Theodore.
From your list I think Cooper goes best with Jackson. It is a last name used as a first name, but doesn't have the exact same ending as your 1st son's name.
What is the C for your son's middle name if you don't mind me asking... just looking for suggestions.
I do think Cooper goes with Jackson, but we likely would not call him Theodore if we named him that-- I just want him to have a full, professional name if he chooses to use it. I don't think Jackson and Teddy sounds so bad together, or Jack and Teddy/Ted/Theo. WDYT?
The C is for Cardiff which is a family name on DH's side. Probably too obscure for most.
Jack and Teddy are cute together, they make me think of the Kennedys. Just don't name your 3rd son Robert (Robby)
Haha you mean Bobby? Imagine if I had a girl and named her Ethel, Rose, or ::gasp:: Kennedy? LOL. Can't get more themey than that!
Oops, I did mean Bobby. I originally typed it with a lowercase b, not sure why I corrected it with a R?
This.
However, I also like Harrison Theodore.
Theodore (Theo) is my cat's name so I really can't help but think of him when I see this name. I like it as a mn though.
I also like the pp's suggestion of Porter. But I see that you don't care for it.
What about Davis?
