Vbac advise

Ok so a great desire is growing in me for a more natural child birth. I have been cleared by my ob to attempt it. However all conditions must be favorable Leading up to labor. I feel like there is no halfway with this so I am going all in a's far a's getting ready. I feel I need a really good prenatal class? Any suggestions? I have a great personal trainer with a masters degree in kineslogy. However she does not have a back ground in Pg so I am debating adding a prenatal yoga class or looking for a wk out trainer or class more Pg spefic? My trainer is also into my Pg and willing to study ways to help me. I just have no idea how to direct her. When should I start looking for a doula? Oh I will be delivering at kaiser (formerly Santa teresa). Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Vbac advise

  • A prenatal yoga class can help, as can any movement class.  If zumba speaks to you, do that, if bellydance is your thing, do that.  Movement for pregnant ladies doesn't not have to be slow, and you can modify anything that is too much for you.  In general, what you do want is something that gives you asymmetrical movement in the hips, which helps keep the baby out of a posterior position.  I'm not sure what was the underlying cause to your c-s, so some specifics would help me narrow down what you could look for in prenatal education or movement classes,.

Now is the time to start looking for a doula if you want someone who is experienced.  Many of us are already booked by the time someone is 12-14 weeks.  If you want some recommendations, I'd be happy to send you some.

  • C-section was a failed induction. Induction was done two weeks early by their estimates on time by mine, due to GD. Basically when the pit started to work the baby and I had a heart rate issue. The meds they used to fix that caused the pit to not work after that. Had medi cal with DD. Did not have much in the way of choices for an ob and well lots of stuff. With this pg we have kaiser. My ob is in gilroy and I will deliver in San Jose. My ob says my c section is the best kind for a vbac. Ya! Other changes are I have been working out like a mad woman since about a year ago and have lost some weight. I am much healthier going in this time.

  • I don't have any advice for you, but I wanted to say good luck on being able to try. That wasn't an option for me with Emme's birth, and not sure I would want to do L&D after my experience. I think it is awesome that you are looking to do a vbac, but also understand a c/s might happen too.
  • Yay another vbac attempter :)

My ob (rwc) is fine with me giving it a shot and I'm excited. I also understand it might now happen. Glad there is a fellow hopeful vbac gal :)

  • I'm fairly confident that the most effective thing I did for my successful vbac was hypnobabies. Too successful in fact, I was minutes away from being a unassisted home vbac :) While I lost focus while transitioning during the car ride HB helped me be pain free until then and really helped me mentally prepare for a vaginal delivery. I had a doula this time around which was helpful and had been drinking infusions of red rasberry leaf tea like it was going out of style. Maybe that helped, maybe not, but if we have another child I'll be doing the exact same things! Good luck!

  • I am going to be attempting to have a VBAC.  I had my c-section because my DS had the cord wrapped around his neck two times and his heart rate declined tons with every push and some with every contraction.  My hospital was great and I pushed (every other contraction) for two hours before my c-section.  Since I went so far with my DS I am not taking any classes.  My plan is to use acupuncture and a few visits to a chiropractor in the last few weeks as well climbing stairs and red raspberry tea.  I personally felt super comfortable with the nurses at my hospital that took care of me and guided me through labor I personally feel like that will be all I need.  I do have to add that I am not looking for a med free birth.  I do hope to postpone my epidural a little this time but even with my epidural last time I was able to move quite a bit.  They had me changing positions with every contraction because of my son's heart de-accellarations.
