extremely scientific clicky poll

Re: extremely scientific clicky poll

  • I say Black instead of African American because I'm lazy.  1 syllable vs. 7.

  • Am I assuming the brown person you refer to is American? Huh? huh?
  • i am crossing my fingers and toes that someone says they use 'colored'

    i will die!!

  • LOL@"colored"

I remember getting yelled at once because I said "different colored people" in reference to a range of ethnicities because the word "colored" is apparently off-limits just because of its negative connotation to blacks.

  • Would you like us with unusual kid name spellings to answer this poll or would that mess it up for you?

  • My dad used to say 'coloured'.  He was born in 1929 so I think he was trying to be 'correct', I can only imagine what words/terms his parents used, or what he generally heard in his youth.  I would always respond with: 'what colour were they?'.  He never changed though.

You have now skewed your results - someone is going to pick colored just to make you freak.  Poll = dunzo.  YOU RUINED IT!

  • I use black. I was told by a Haitian friend that she can't stand it when people refer to her as African American because she isn't from Africa. Apparently it happens to her a lot and she finds it insulting.

I heard my grandma say that when I was a little girl and had no clue what she was talkng about.. proceeded to do the "But Why?" After each of her attempts to explain.. I don't think I ever heard her say that again.

  • Crazy Mouth Breather co-worker said "colored" one time and I tried to gently explain that it was inappropriate. She then says "But what am I supposed to call them?!" all indignant like.

When I told her that "black" or "african american" were acceptable, she said "If I was black I would be so pissed if someone disrespected me by calling me black."  Uh. Ok.
