I've read some posts on here that some ladies have great luck with BFing and weight loss, but others claim to GAIN weight while BFing because they have to keep their calories up for the supply. If you are one of the lucky ones who loses weight while BFing, when did you start to notice it? Did you lose all your preggo pounds plus some? Am I just dreaming that I can lose my preggo pounds plus about 15 more from BFing (and eating smart)?
Re: Weight loss and BF/EP
I didn't gain any weight with my pregnancy, due to losing 11 lbs in the beginning--I had HORRIBLE morning sickness--and I gained almost all of it back. So I ended up being -2 lbs pre-pregnancy weight when I went into the hospital for my c-section.
That said, I'm quite overweight, about a size 18/20, so keep that in mind.
I gave birth, my weight swelled up due to the c-section, and then a bunch came off. I'm now -11 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight. I'm BFing, but my body seems to think it needs to hold onto weight like I'm a stick-thin model. I'm definitely not stick-thin.
So yes, I've lost weight, but I seem to have totally plateaued and haven't lost any in at least 2 months (DD is 3 months). I'm not eating as healthily as I should; my husband is working really long shifts and I'm alone with a somewhat cranky little girl. Take that for what's it worth.
I still hope that I'll lose more weight, if I can ever get back to eating better.
I gained 20lbs during pregnancy and lost it all during the first week postpartum. I'm currently under my pre-pregnancy weight and EBF but it's only been 2 weeks, so I can't give you a realistic idea of whether that's going to continue to go down, stay the same, or go up.
I can tell you that I'm not really a sweets person so I don't eat a lot of sweet snacks/dessert which I'm sure helps with the healthy eating, And DH and I take the baby out for a daily 3 mile walk which is what I'm comfortable with exercise wise at this point.

I gained over 35 lbs. I lost all but 13lbs the first week. I lost another 2 lbs without much effort, so I have around 11 lbs to go. I was 00P/0P before I was pregnant. I haven't started working out yet - going to the doctor tomorrow.

I was an average weight before getting preganant (5'5, 130 pounds) and I gained 58 pounds (eep!) while pregnant. I had only lost 14 when I came home from the hospital 4 days pp. I EP and at 4.5 months pp I am down 49 pounds (9 to go to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight), which have come off pretty gradually. I haven't been dieting or going to the gym, but I am generally trying to eat healthy and usually walk a few miles every day. I have some pre-pregnancy pants that fit although most of them are still too tight to wear. I think the last 9 pounds will come off before the end of the year. I think EPing has definitely helped my weight loss, as I've never dropped weight this easily before.

My LO is only three weeks old, but this pattern so far has been pretty close to what I did with my two older children...
I gained 75 lbs with this pregnancy (yeah, I know). I have already lost 35 lbs. I don't have any intention of "trying" to lose weight until it stops coming off on it's own. With the other two I got down to pre-baby weight pretty quick, losing about 5lbs a week without trying. It helps that I tend to crave health foods while I am breastfeeding.
I've never been preggo so I can't relate to weight gain from that. I imagine eating an over abundance of spaghetti sauce would cause a great deal of gas.
First let me mention that I started out overweight (210 lbs when I got pregnant). I gained 21 lbs while pregnant delivering a 6 lb 8oz little man at 231 lbs.
By my 6wk pp I was down to 215. Now 8months later and I'm holding steady at 183. I completely believe this is because I have been EP the entire time. I also have been careful about what I eat. I went and bought a few pairs of work pants a couple weeks ago since my pre-preg clothes were falling off. They are now too big on me as well.
