is whey protein safe?

I will be asking my OB when I see him next, but was just wondering if anyone knows if whey protein is safe during pregnancy.  I've been having 1-2 protein shakes per day without any concerns until a trainer at the gym today said I should make sure  with my dr. and that he thought it wasn't safe.  I googled and found mixed answers.  Thanks!!

  • I've been using it this whole time with no problem...

  • I checked out the ingredients and compared it against supplements/minerals pregnant women should avoid and my brand passed the test. I drink one every morning b4 I workout and sometimes when I come home from work starving and need something to hold me over until dinner is cooked.

I was taking Beachbody?s Shakeologly but it had a few ingredients in it that should be avoided during pregnancy but I?ve heard some women continue their Shakeologly through their pregnancy.

Which ingredients should be avoided during pregnancy?  Just curious...

I think I just googled "suppliments to avoid during pregnancy".  I think I also read some stuff on babycenter.com

  • Thanks for everyone's responses!  I don't see why it would be unsafe, but I'll ask my doctor and let you know what I find out.

  • It's one thing if you're drinking a basic boring protein shake vs. some super stack high energy with TONS of caffeine drink that happens to have protein...

If you're using just a simple protein shake, it's completely safe!

  • I'm using Body by Vi shakes, and they are completely pregnancy approved! They are delicious too! I highly recommend them!
