Nervous about exercising?

So, a year ago at this time I was a total gym rat, going 4-5 days a week and taking all the cardio classes that they gym offered.  This past March I got burnt out and stoped the cardio classes and just did a lot of Pilates and some yoga classes b/c I was bored of the jumping around classes.

This summer I stopped yoga and just did Pilates 1-2 times a week.  Since getting my BFP I've been nervous to work out! I'm mostly nervous b/c I have cramps all the time and just the act of standing up too quickly or sneezing makes my lower abdomen hurt even more.  So, I'm just nervous to go to Pilates and/or yoga because of this.  I also won't do any cardio classes since most of them are pretty intense and I haven't gone to one in months.

I'm also tired, and so I just don't feel like going.  I'm hoping that once I go to my first U/S and see the baby and know this pregnany is normal I won't be so nervous to work out.  I also don't want to tell the instructors I'm PG yet, until I know that there is something in there!  Does anyone feel the same way?

Re: Nervous about exercising?

  • I just started exercising again this week. I have been so tired, lazy for the last month that I made myself start going.  It makes you less tired after working out!   I haven't worked out since my wedding so I thought I would get back into excersing to get fit for the baby and I have gained some weight since the wedding!  I have been doing Zumba and eliptical.  As far as I know you can exercise as much as you want.  Just don't strain yourself or over do yourself.  I heard you should abstain from lifting weights.  No one knows that I am pregnant yet so I am taking it easy and not pushing myself too hard.

  • I will not be working out the first trimester. My OB says it's fine, but I m/c twice, and I know it's soley coincidence, but I started walking, lifting shortly before each m/c.

I also spoke to a friend who had 4 m/c before she got her sticky baby and with her sticky baby, she was told not to workout in the first trimester. I'd rather by safe than sorry, particularly with my history.

That being said - listen to your OB and your body. Everthing in moderation. :)

  • I'm really scared too.  I won't be exercising until 2nd Trimester or maybe with Dr.'s approval next week at my first appointment, but really concerned until I know that all is well???  It really sucks, because I need it mentally & physically.  I really want to try a pregnancy yoga dvd, but again I won't even do that until Dr. says it's okay...

  • I've put almost all exercise on hold during 1st tri because I'm so nervous about it.  I have been trying to take our dogs for a daily walk just to get a little exercise.

I did IVF too.  I'm still under strict "no exercise, no orgasm" rules until told otherwise.  Hopefully that will change soon!!

  • I had a m/c my first pregnancy and my OB speficially told me not to stop exercising during the first trimester with DS because exercising was not the cause of a miscarriage.  I played softball into my 2nd tri with DS too.  I'm now a runner and I won't stop unless I have to.
