Need motivation to get my house in order :(

Ok I am not a near freak or any of that to begin with and we have a lot going on and my husband is busy so I am pretty much with my son all the time. Now he won't play alone and that makes it really difficult for me to get anything done in the first place but I am just lacking motivation I guess because I cant seem to get it together :(. Please help!

  • How old is your LO? I clean during naps...and shower. Whatever else waits until DH gets home.

  • Hang in there it gets easier too when they get older.

When I needed to clean the kitchen they loved to play in my cupboards, I designated one or two as their cupboards and put in things for them to play with...they made a mess of the floor, but I got my sinks/counters/frig cleaned. In the bathroom, same story.  It is amazing how long a box of tampons and an old Kleenex box will entertain children. Wink

Clean and straighten up while napping...I tell you, my house looks a lot cleaner when it is picked up and organized.  Add a quick vacuum and it looks like I worked all day. Kidding, but DH really notices.

Get creative with when/how you clean and develop new routines that work for you...old methods have to go.

    Good luck!

  • Plan an event about a month away and start preparing.  We have to invite people over every couple of weeks, or I have no motivation.

    do the laundry basket routine.

take an empty laundry basket and go in a room and gather EVERYTHING that doesn't belong in that room. go to next room- deposit anything that is in the basket that belongs in that room and add to the basket. go from room to room and do this- as a starter.

It is a BIG accomplishment and usually gives me the motivation to go from there.

I did something similar a few weeks ago.  I took a laundry basket and went room to room putting all of the piles into it.  Then I put the entire basket in the basement, and I've taken things out of it as I've noticed they are missing. :) I still have a basket full of stuff in the basement, but at least I don't have to look at piles around the house.  DH was impressed when he came home that day, until I told him that there was now one big pile in a basket in the basement.  LOL

  • Thanks ladies!! The laundry basket is a good idea! Naps are part of the problem we are Seeing a sleep dr because he doesn't sleep enough and it's different every day so it's hard to plan things during naps some days he doesn't nap at all. He will be 2 in December (but born 3 months early). Y'all gave me lots of good ideas thank you :)

LOL- that is funny. But you are supposed to put the stuff where it belongs when you get to the next room. I HAVE put all of DH's junk in one big pile in the middle of his office. In fact --- I confess I do that regularly. I don't have time to pick up after an adult.

  • I have a 12wk old and a 6yo (6 yo is SN). MH works 2-10pm usually 10-14 days straight I, so since I am the SAHM, I am the one who has to clean and maintain. It doesn't always get done. My kids are more important that a super clean house...however MH wants the house super clean. So, I am hoping for an easier time once my 12wk old is a bit older. He doesn't nap long so it makes for an intresting day. I need motivation too...that and a babysitter for 2 hours :) LoL

I think I'm going to do this with DH's junk too. He's terrible at leaving clutter & pack ratting.
