Newborn and tummy time...

Does anyone have any advice on what could help us with tummy time? LO hates being on his belly and just screams and tries picking up his head the entire time... Is there any way to safely prop him up or something so his face isn't completely on the floor?

Re: Newborn and tummy time...

  • I started him on my chest for tummy time.  He tended to cry less that way.  I would lay down on the floor and put him on his tummy on my chest.  When he turned 2 weeks, I used my nursing pillow to prop him up a little and he didn't seem to mind that.  I did keep a close eye on him though.

  • Use a nursing pillow or a tummy time pillow.  I also have two playmats that came with the tummy time pillows.

  • So a boppy would work ok? I'd watch him like a hawk of course, we tried him on our chests, but he still hates that pretty good. Lol thanks so much ladies! I wasn't sure if a boppy would be ok to use.
  • Our activity mat came with a pillow that looks like a tiny version of the boppy.  putting ds on this seems to work for him.  Right now though, his favorite tummy time is laying on our chests so we do this most often.

  • My LO still hates tummy time at 9 weeks and we only do it a few minutes a day. He has really good head control so I'm not sweating it. Just like with everything else, I am confident that one of these days he'll start liking it a bit more. I guess only advice is to stay persistent. Don't force it for long, but just do a little each day.
